Lidge rejoins Phillies, says he's ready

Posted: Saturday April 05, 2008 10:06AM ET

Closer Brad Lidge joined the Phillies last night at Great American Ball Park. Lidge, who has been on the disabled list since March 21 with an injured right knee, will be activated and available to pitch for today's game against the Cincinnati Reds. "Physically, I feel fine," Lidge said. "I think facing some major-league hitters will bump up my velocity a little bit more to where I'd like to be."

2 weeks + 5 appearances + disability list = BRAD LIDGE

I don't think Pujols' homer has landed yet.

If he's okay, Lidge makes the Phillies tough. If not, their bullpen stinks.

No, the Pujols ball has not landed yet

good he will help the phillies more then he ever did for the astros

It's not going to matter the phillies S.U.C.K as do all of philly sports because the philly fans are the worst sports fans in the world right behind soccer hooligans.

DirtyRoster, what's your story? Some chick from Philly dump you in a bad way at some point? Philly fans are harsh, but the Phillies are a pretty good team. Their infield alone has three MVP candidates. Who do you love? The *&^%ing Yankees?

Report Offensive Comment

Brad Lidge should definitely help them. I don't think the Mets are as good as everyone thinks they are.

We're bad fans because we care?

Outsiders don't get it. Philly Fans boo out of passion and because they love these teams so much, they invest their hearts into them. Year after year after year we get hurt, but we keep coming back. Im going to quote this from a fourm I go to:

"But, with sports it is different.
Who has the best team is quantifiable. It is not a matter of subjective opinion.
If you win, you are the best, period.
Our sports teams give us our sense of civic pride.
We want the best because we want to be the best.

So, we live and die with the Eagles as if our very children were on the field.
They are a part of us.

All of this passion is often misunderstood.
"Why all of the booing?"
"Why all of the hate?"
"Who cares?"
"It is just a game"...
...but it isn't.

Because they are like our "children", we defend them at all cost.
We root for them with all of our might.
We sulk when they sulk.
We show our disapproval when they disappoint us.

And, above all, as with children, their hopes and dreams are ours, too."

This is a dumb comment in it's own. I can understand saying a team sucks because of logical reasons. Like saying the Phillies suck because their bullpen/pitching continues to be questionable against the likes of the Braves or Mets. However, you claim the Phillies suck because of their fans. I don't see how Philly fans could be the worst in the world. We/they still show up during losing seasons, we support our teams, and we're passionate. We don't disappear when the going gets tough. Nothing wrong with that. Perhaps we should start clapping like maniacs for mediocrity? Standing o's for hitting into a game ending double play or missing a wide open net with 2 seconds to play? Sorry, but that's just stupid. They/us might be a bit on the wild side, but come on, it's sports. We haven't won a title in awhile and we're just as passionate as any athlete about having our city name on the trophy. I don't get your perspective I guess. We don't believe in the "aww shucks, maybe in ten years" mentality. We want results and we want to see passion and desire. And don't even start with the Irvin or Santa talk. Especially the Santa talk. That's decades ago. Literally. Every professional sports team has some idiot or idiots who do stupid things. Sorry Philly didn't embrace you as God himself when you came in wearing the opponent's jersey. Were you expecting a gift basket with expensive cheeses and soaps? I also don't get how Philly sports suck. The Flyers and Eagles have made the playoffs almost every year for awhile. The Phillies have turned around their roster. Rollins, Utley, and Howard make up an impressive infield. Imagine if Rolen, still in his prime, was on 3B. The Phillies are heading in the right direction. The Sixers are also showing promise. Philly sports are always competitive and so are their fans. Your intelligence and prowess showed true in that comment. Good luck when you jump on your next bandwagon.
