Sir Alex Ferguson put up a robust defence of Cristiano Ronaldo last night, saying he was bewildered by the accusations of Roma's David Pizarro that the Manchester United player did "spiteful things" to humiliate his opponents. "As far as I'm concerned Ronaldo can carry on doing what he does," said Ferguson.

Perhaps Pizarro is just a sore loser, media. You ever think of that?

Wah, Wah...get over it Pizarro...if Ronaldo was playing for Roma I'm sure he wouldn't be such a cry baby. Ronaldo is good for football. He has proven that time and time again. GO UNITED!!!

Hmmm, why does he do this I wonder.......maybe because you can't defend him. You want him to stop, find someone who can stop him. Just because he is better than mostly everyone (if not all) on most teams (including yours Pizarro) doesn't mean you have to be sore about it. I am sure that if you had the talent on your team that he has they would do the same. It doesn't matter though, there will always be something to complain about, I am sure they are still angry about the score (7-1) last year. I wonder what they will complian about after they get knocked out by ManU instead of just admitting they got beat by the better team.

How old is that picture? CR is like 13 years old there.

April 5, 2008  02:59 PM ET

I found that picture quite disturbing. At first I thought the person on the left was Katerina Witt but then noticed the name below. Now it's even more disturbing to me.

Yeah, that picture looks super old.

Dunga said it best to be honest (on the Reuters Soccer Blog) 'if you do those same things in a game you are losing 3-0; or in a Cup competition that you are losing, then you aren't showboating'
You guys have to remember that in Italy, Spain and Latin America it's considered a HUGE sign of disrespect to do things like Ronaldo sometimes does for no other reason than showmanship. People have literally been killed in South America for stuff like that.
That said, most of what I've seen Ronaldo do I've seen him do while losing so I think he passes the litmus test for the most part.

Let Ronaldo play if they dont like it then they need to sign a player that can give there club that kind of confidence.

April 5, 2008  06:12 PM ET

That's just Cristiano. No point in fixing him. Let him be the swagger cocky **** that he is. I love it!

April 5, 2008  06:38 PM ET

he may be a poser but he's is making United $

April 5, 2008  11:04 PM ET

If I had a wish to play like a player as of right now, It would either be C. Ronaldo or Carlos Vela.

April 5, 2008  11:40 PM ET

i didn't know Ferguson was associated with women's soccer

April 5, 2008  11:44 PM ET

Does anyone remember the summer of 2006? Wasn't it an Italian team that had players throwing elbows at McBride's face and taunting Zidane with inappropriate comments about his sister?
These sort of things are commonplace in Serie A. I find it incredibly ironic that someone who sees these terrible things constantly would be insulted by a simple display of skill.

People pay to see Ronaldo no one outside of Rome pays to see Pizarro. The best players in the world should be allowed to show off their creativity freely.

Balling them up is great

April 6, 2008  12:50 PM ET

well, guys, it is part of his game, as Marcello Lippi says. It isn't just for showing off, he needs that as an intricate part of his game. People are taken this the wrong way. When Nanai showed up Arsenal, that was showing off, but what Ronaldo does has something behind it.

April 6, 2008  05:28 PM ET

L-Dubz, these things are commonplace in football. This isn't confined to one league, everybody does it. Also, Pizarro needs to shut it. Ronaldo may have showboated a little, but really, who cares. He wasn't seal dribbling or pulling the football equivalents of Globetrotter tricks.

Maybe he was complaining about regular Ronaldo. And how he eats donuts on the field, which to me, is offensive and distracting.
