Top receiver commits to Vols

One of the nation's premier wide receivers, Northeast High junior Je'Ron Stokes, yesterday gave an oral commitment to play football at Tennessee. The 6-foot-1, 178-pound speedster chose the Volunteers over Illinois, Penn State and Oklahoma. Stokes made his decision after returning to Philadelphia on Saturday following his second unofficial visit to Tennessee.

Good for him. The Vols need one of these receivers to perform, though.

Tennessee has produced good receivers in the past several years, so this was a good choice.

As How 'bout 'em said, " Tennessee has produced good receivers in the past several years" And I agree.

Hopefully they will have a QB who can get him the ball on a regular basis.

Report Offensive Comment

Sweet - look forward to seeing this chode in action next year against UGA

Report Offensive Comment

Thank God we got someone to hopefully catch the ball, now my main concern is who will being tossing it to him??

Report Offensive Comment

HA yea thats a good point, who is QBing TN these days?

Report Offensive Comment

Update - in regards to "someone who could catch the ball" one scout site has him marked as "questionable" for hands. I guess he had something like 23 dropped balls last season, but he is very quick so when he does manage to catch it he is a force to be reckoned with. Just an interesting note.

No QB, questionable OL, Arian Foster will be gone (top RB)... Yep, seems like a perfect fit for this young man. And with his size he'll be just great in the physical SEC! Boy I really hate we got "stuck" with 6'3 220lb Julio Jones, it would have been much better to get ole brick hands noted above. -- In serious talk though, I am sure the kid will be a beast of a special teams player, but nothing more then a slot receiver on O. -- Don't expect too much.

I like this but I still think Tennessee needs to get back to using the TE more in the offense. Look at what they did when they had Jason Witten.

Report Offensive Comment

On another note, who is having the best career so far: Witten, Stallworth, or Kelley Washington?

Sounds like a TD in the making Cnote :)

i am sorry bama fan, but just because you have never heard of our qb doesn't mean we are thin at the position. jonathan crompton was a parade all american out of highschool and looked solid last year. he is a redshirt junior and has the tools to be one of the top qb's in the sec. our oline currently has two parade all americans. aside from arian foster, we have montario hardesty and lennon creer at half back. not to mention the fact that we have two very good te's in incoming frosh tyler maples and the transfer te from FSU, brandon warren. the future looks bright for UT football bama fan, sorry to disappoint

also rabdawg, i don't know what scout you were looking at, but scout.com states that if the ball is thrown in his direction he is coming down with it, and they also list his hands as one of the strengths of his game.

Report Offensive Comment

Hmmm interesting, I will find the scout site, it was an offbeat one I got from googling his name, scout.com sometimes gets blocked by my work proxy server. I'll link it when I find it again

Another top noch player for the SEC

I read all the comments.....I am an X Tenn person, now living in Tasmania. I don't get the college games...just on radio, but I listen to them....Surely would love to see the Big Orange so it this year.

Tenn needs defense. their offense is never been creative, hopefully the new offensive coordinator can change that. Fulmer has to go because the team is playing not to loose games. He is doing just enough the stay on , but TEN will never win a championship with fulmer.

I don't think Fulmer has to go for UT to get better. The past two seasons he gave control over to the offensive coordinator, David Cutcliffe, and the offense and the teams were a lot better. I don't know how good the new coordinator is but I think he will be better than Cutcliffe's predecessor. The defense which was green and fairly inexperienced last year should be better this year. I don't think they will make a BCS Bowl but they should still make a New Year's Day Bowl game.
