UCLA expects to lose Love
In private, UCLA coaches have been resigned all season to losing freshman center Kevin Love and junior point guard Darren Collison. Before this season began, they also thought it was possible junior Josh Shipp and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute might at least declare for the NBA draft, attend some camps and have their status evaluated but not hire an agent. And since the season developed and sophomore guard Russell Westbrook demonstrated that he is the most athletically talented one-on-one player UCLA has, his draft stock has risen. However, Shipp's shot has abandoned him for most of the second half of the season, throwing his exit into doubt.

Love should stay at least another year. Memphis exposed his lack of athleticism and the NBA will only get worse....his dad is a doctor and he lives in an uppity neighborhood in the Portland area, not like money will be a motivator to leave.

Love should stay a little longer. He has all the makings of a great college player but an average pro. He should enjoy college a little longer before he gets used in the NBA.

Love isn't quick enough or have athletic enough to play in the NBA right now. I think he'll be a decent/good NBA player. But if he leaves now he'll just get abused by NBA big men right now.

He's too slow for the NBA. Plus, if UCLA want's any chance of making it back to the Final Four they're going to need him. I didn't even think they would get that far this year.

You go to college to get a high paying job- period.
If he can get a guaranteed 3yr contract for several million $ after 1 year- good for him.
That being said- the vast majority of big men take a few years to physically mature once they hit the NBA -
Why not (since he has no financial needs now) stay in school, enjoy UCLA campus life, the women, the lifestyle, become a UCLA legend, then come out -he'll make the same $ anyway

Collison is a mediocre point guard. The ball dies in his hands, and Memphis completly dominated him. He shoud stay, or else he will be playing his pro ball in Italy in a couple of years. Love is a very good college player, though I feel that the media is giving him the Hansborough treatment, he isll have a hard time in the pros.

Collison was completly dominated and emasculated on saturday. The ball literally died in his hands as he dribbled around with no apparent plan. He will be a mediocre pro and will be playing in Italy or some other European backwater in a few years time. As for Love, he is a very good college player, though sometimes I wonder if he is getting the Hansborough treatment from the media, but he will have problems in the league. Lastly, I am a UCLA fan, but they were outcoached on saturday period.

Collison single handedly made two Memphis guards into lottery picks. That doesn't bode well for when he plays against actual NBA players.

Memphis stated after the game that they gave the ball to whoever Collison was guarding and avoided Westbrook. So, basically, Memphis guards dropped 50 on him. That's not the type of comments that usually get attached to a future NBA star.

Love has the makings of a good NBA player, but he definitely needs more polish. He should also spend more time in the weight room and working on his conditioning. If he dedicates his time toward these, then he can be the #1 overall pick after his sophmore season, barring any significant injuries.

Love could benefit from at least another year. If he developed his outside game (he clearly has the talent to do that) and switched his diet away from donuts he could have an NBA game. I guess he could do the same without staying in college, but at 6'10" and slow, he's got some things to work on. He's a really good passer and a good rebounder (great hands) so he's got some skills that many others don't have. So, he could be a star in the NBA, but his game's got to evolve. He's not going to be able to post up offensively or defend the post against an NBA center..... although as I say that I realize that there are a lot of stiffs playing center in the NBA.

UCLA was outcoached (agree with comments from techcharles. If Ben Howland made any adjustments to the fact that Collison was getting abused on both sides of the ball.... I didn't see it. Didn't he have any other options? I guess in Howland's defense, most teams are dependant on their point guards to produce & very few have a good Plan B. I think UCLAs lack of depth was exposed.

Love's size and the fact that he's fundamentally sound gets him over in the college game. However, if he doesn't drop 15-20 pounds and increase his vertical leap, it'll be hard for him in the NBA. Collison definitely needs to stay another year as he has trouble creating his own shot against big and athletic guards. Howland coaches great defense but insists on calling plays out of a half-court set. With Love's ability to throw outlet passes, I expected UCLA to run alot more. UCLA's chances to score in transition would've been better than the looks they got in thier half-court sets. As for the aforementioned Psycho-T Hansbrough, he's nothing more than an athletic Mark Madsen.

If UCLA Bruins = Buffalo Bills,
then USC Trojans Basketball = ...
Well, I guess there is no NFL comparison to a USC team that has won exactly two outright conference titles in SIXTY SEVEN YEARS.
Your distinguished basketball history certainly qualifies you to speak on this topic. Thanks for (yet another) brilliant USC alumnus comment.

Love's dad is not a doctor. What does his perceived financial status have to do with whether or not he is prepared to play in the NBA?

He has to stay. He isn't ready for the League. He's going to be a great college player and he needs to stay. He should be like Psycho T and play it out a little longer.
