At this rate, perhaps Notre Dame and the Golic clan can just sign a binding oral commitment agreement for all of eternity and save everyone some time. On Saturday, the Irish football team received its first oral commitment for the class of 2009 from -- surprise! -- Jake Golic, a 6-foot-4, 202-pound tight end from Hartford, Conn. This after older brother Mike, Jr., continued the bloodline pipeline to South Bend by signing with the Irish out of the class of 2008.

OMG! What a total shock! Never saw this coming! In reality, ND was probably the only big DIV 1 team to have offered him.

April 7, 2008  09:22 AM ET

The only way this Golic kid could have shocked me is if he committed to USC. According to ESPN his other suitors were Boston College, Rutgers, and UCONN. Not really big schools.

April 7, 2008  10:22 AM ET

ND's still gonna suck.

April 7, 2008  10:28 AM ET

Why is anyone surprised? And sounds like Mike Golic isn't raising his boys to be top NFL prospects if he's sending them to play for Charlie Weis and the South Bend Patriots.

April 7, 2008  10:38 AM ET

I still like it when a legacies continue; ND now has Joe Montana's kid and Mike Golic's kids. I know it is not impressive on the surface, but I want my son to go to USC and I never played a down of college football. But I was a great member of the student body. (LOL) WE ARE SC!

Can't wait until beats ND again this year. My sign during the game:

"WRONG CHOICE, GOLIC BROTHERS."

Come to Noder Dame....for the chance to be mentored by one of the most arrogant fattazzes in college football...stay for the NBC post-game spread.

April 7, 2008  11:43 AM ET

The TRUTH has obtained a promo that NBC has lined up for this fall's football coverage:

"Saturday on NBC, the Fightin' Irish square off against the BYU Cougars in a class of programs that were last relevent in 1988. Tune in for all of the exciting jampacked action watching Jimmy Clausen, Mike Golic Jr, and Joey Montanta play drop the soap"

April 7, 2008  12:17 PM ET

Maybe they heard about the Buffet that Weis orders in twice a day

April 7, 2008  12:39 PM ET

Yawn.... Another "Name" recruit who will sit the pine for two years, and then help the Irish to another 6-6 season, and a bowl blow out loss. Congrats!

April 7, 2008  01:14 PM ET

Maybe he just liked the school. (well it's possible)

April 7, 2008  02:31 PM ET

Geez, what a bunch of whinnies...especially Michigan...'ya gonna play anybody tough this year? Yeah, we tanked last year but nobody had us in the top 5 and then sucked a big one! Jealously is stll the rage, eh? Why else would you guys spend so much time whininin' and picking on an irrelevant program.

April 7, 2008  02:41 PM ET

C-Smith. I think you are right. Mike Golic is not raising his kids to be top NFL prospects. He is smart enough to know how difficult it is for even blue chip players to make it in the pros. At the very least they will have the experience of playing for one of the most storied programs in history and leave with a degree from there. Over 95% of their football players do. *And if I were you The Truth...I suggest you Michigan fans think twice about "throwing stones" at someone else's program. I see a looooonnnnnggggg season for you folks in Ann Arbor in 2008!

Eagle1...Notre Dame has won 11 National Championships. When Boston College comes close to getting their first I will consider your comments noteworthy.

April 7, 2008  03:20 PM ET

April 7, 2008  03:22 PM ET

April 7, 2008  03:43 PM ET
