There's some buzz at the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio that Gophers men's basketball coach Tubby Smith could be sought for the Oklahoma State job for a boatload of money, but Smith has a $3 million buyout this year at Minnesota.

Would you want to coach a team named "Golden Gopher"?

You would think the University of Minnesota could have come up with a better name.

Every school school should give up. Tubby is ecstatic about his recruiting class for next year, plus he can basically do whatever he wants.

As for the team name, it's the Gopher State, so it is what it is. No one else at any level has that name that I've heard of, so I don't mind it. But the football and basketball teams need to change theie uniforms and do more of a Rams gold and get a bigger M that is more like Wisconsin's W or something.

I could see Tubby leaving. Self could turn down the money because he is at Kansas, Tubby is a big time coach at a second level program. For that he could go take Boone's millions.

I hate to say it, but the Goophs have not alwyas been basement dwellers. If the money was the same, I'd much rather Coach in Minneapolis-metro than wherever-the-heck, OKL.

Stoolwater isn't a bad burg, duany.

But it ain't Chi-town.

I think Tubby is at the point of his career where wants control. Who wants T. Boone Pickens pulling all the strings? Then again, for $10,000,000 I'd jump whenever he told me to.

so is Pickens chasing Tubby or Self? or does he want then both as co-coaches?

April 8, 2008  02:04 AM ET

What has Tubby ever done? He won a National Championship in is first year, with none of his own players. After that, he was no bueno. But, if Boone Pickens, I mean Okla. State wants to give a three year deal to see what he can do, why not. I'd hit that for 4 million a year.

That arguement "winning a title with players that were not his" is rediculous and it shows you know nothing about nothing when you make it. Could you of coached that team to the championship? Didnt think so. Rick P has even said that he would of not won the title in 98 at Kentucky because he would have coached the game differently when they were down 17 with 9 to play.

Ya but Rick P wouldn't have been down 17 with 9 to play
