K-Rod's ankles worry Angels

Francisco Rodriguez's arm is fine, but some cracks are showing in his foundation -- namely, the closer's ankles, which are both sprained, heavily taped, and, in the words of Manager Mike Scioscia, a cause for "concern." Rodriguez injured his left ankle when he landed in a hole on the mound last August. He twisted the right ankle while skipping down the dugout steps before Saturday's game against Texas.

I get the impression K-Rod doesn't look down when walking (or skipping). TWO sprained ankles??? OUCH! Get well soon.

Dr. TRUTH reccomends heavy dozes of laudnum with a tequila chaser!

Contract in question + sore ankles = no rush to get back to work

ps- baseball players are so soft in general it is a joke.

April 8, 2008  01:29 PM ET

On the bright side for Anaheim, they won't have to worry about his ankles next year.

CAN'T HAVE ENOUGH PITCHING - EVER !!!

April 8, 2008  01:52 PM ET

Closers are like running backs in the NFL. Only a few of them ever have a long career in that role, and even fewer become Hall of Fame worthy.

High-top cleats with ankle braces should do him fine.

April 8, 2008  03:25 PM ET

You're damn straight Sciosa is worried. Who wouldn't if they just lost one of the top closers in the game for an undetermined amount of time? Neither Shields nor Speier can truly fill that hole if K-Rod's out for longer than initially suspected.

April 8, 2008  04:44 PM ET

Speaking of worried, Detroit's losing again.

April 8, 2008  04:46 PM ET

Sorry Buckner... Shields or Speier CAN fill that roll... I say let K-Rod take a few weeks to get ready... Then bring him back healthy... Hopefully he pitches well... Then we can trade him... Someone else can overpay him for the next 4 years... (yes Hank Steinbrenner.... I am talking to YOU)... I like the scenario

I love it...the TRUTH takes great DEELIGHT in the misforturnes of Detroit

April 8, 2008  06:31 PM ET

This guy is way over-rated and he thinks he's better than he is. I bet the other Angel pitchers aren't too happy either getting no decisions on brilliantly pitched games.

April 8, 2008  06:34 PM ET

This guy is way overrated. His pitches are all over the place. It's nail-biting time whenever they put him in.

April 8, 2008  08:37 PM ET

?

April 8, 2008  08:57 PM ET

I want to know why he was "skipping" down the steps...was he humming show tunes as well?

CLE 4 LAA 3 FINAL
BS - Speier

Hmm... what was that about K-Rod being overrated and that Speier could fill the hole in the closer's spot?
