Williams wants to remain a Lion

Lions receiver Roy Williams has heard all the talk and rumors about a possible draft-day trade to the Cowboys and said he is prepared for whatever happens. The former Longhorns star wants to stay in Detroit. Williams knows what he's been told by the Lions, but he also understands the business of the game. He recited the money the team has guaranteed to fellow Lions receiver Calvin Johnson. Williams is in the final year of his contract and the Lions have yet to approach him about an extension.

He likes it there? See, not everyone wants to be a Patriot.

April 8, 2008  07:36 AM ET

No. Not everyone or there'd be more than 53 on the roster. <_<

Post Script on the Bengal 'one man crime wave' of yesterday: I found out in travels yesterday..

There was more than the lame stuff that article mentioned. And another charge came to light.

Gopod one Mr. Oso.

Ahem, the NFL limits roster size. Or is that like video rules?

April 8, 2008  07:41 AM ET

Maybe he wants to catch a pass thrown by Drew Stanton and knows this year may be his last and final chance.

April 8, 2008  08:10 AM ET

Sorry. I meant to say "good one, Mr. Oso" but had to take a P.

The movie "Mighty" was on yesterday. Somewhat a bio and moving to me but I was told it was too sad for most kids and guys hated it since Sharon Stome kept her clothes on. So it was a chick flick. Oh well.

"Williams wants to remain a Lion"

WHY???????

April 8, 2008  08:38 AM ET

People get angry and annoyed with players when they DON'T want to stay somewhere...but now that someone WANTS to stay on a team (even a bad one), you ask why and act as if he is crazy.

Make up your mind. Is it good or bad?

Big Ben68

Depends on the circumstances.

April 8, 2008  08:51 AM ET

True, but you can't get angry at a player on a bad team if he wants to leave, but you can get angry at a player on a bad team if he wants to stay.

Doesn't make sense to me...

The Lions are improving. Remember the first half of last season? Williams probably thinks the Lions can play like that next year. He also is the number one guy in Detroit. He'd have to deal with TO if he went to Dallas. Also, Sporting News did name Detroit the number one sports city, saying Detroit has the best sports fans. He likes the support he gets, and there's no pressure playing for the Lions.

April 8, 2008  09:43 AM ET

All you T.O. haters really need to zip it and move on and stop waiting for the crash that isn't going to happen. TO has never been arrested, has never beat his woman, has never been pulled over for a DUI, has never taken steroids... He has always put up Pro Bowl numbers and has always made the team around him play better.. He's one of the top five Receivers in the league. Williams could only flourish playing next to him.. STOP HATIN AND MOVE ON..

goblue15 | 04/08/08, 09:11 AM

Dood! Dood? Are you for real "goblu15"? If we only played the first 8 games of the season, then you'd be right. But those last 8 games don't appear to be of a team improving. Usually when you bomb in the last half, they call that choking....and I'd much rather deal with TO than play for a consistant loser.

April 8, 2008  10:28 AM ET

Whatever the worst thing for the Lions is, Matt Millen will do it. If he trades Williams, Williams is a superstar. If he signs him to a new deal, he'll be a bust. Millen should think hard about what to do then do the complete opposite. He should think about remaining the Lions GM. He should think about getting up in the morning. Etc.

April 8, 2008  10:48 AM ET

Am I unlike other Lions fans? Publicly I rip on them, but every year, there is always that glimmer of hope that they might actually be good...

I just don't think it happens without an O-line and an improved defense. Its not Bell, Jones, et al. that are the main problem. I would be ok if Millen spent every draft pick thie year on the O-line. I am being dead serious. We develop a strong, young O-line and keep that the focus of our offense, the other parts will come along for free. Even Bell can be a thousand yard rusher with a line...

Lions have hardly ever had a line. We just had Barry who made up for a lack of a line, and also made Moore and Mitchell so good together. Remember when the biggest thing we had to complain about was Scott Mitchell, I would take those days back in a heart beat.

April 8, 2008  11:15 AM ET

And with the 28th pick in the 2008 draft, the Dallas Cowboys trade for Roy Williams, Detroit Lions WR.

April 8, 2008  11:30 AM ET

I think if Dallas would give us a 1st and 2nd round pick or a 1st and a dominant D lineman than I would make the trade if not then it aint worth it. to actually have a player that wants to be here is a goodthing if those are histrue feelings. I think he wants the money. He dont really make sense either b/che was saying he wasnt studying as hard as he should and all that other $hit, then why would we give him top money? I dont know, i like the guy but trade em.

April 8, 2008  12:09 PM ET

Wow. Roy Williams and TO would be a great tandem. I don't think it will happen, though.

April 8, 2008  12:28 PM ET

What if we traded Williams and Millen for a sack of nuts?

April 8, 2008  01:57 PM ET
