Suspended Penn State wide receiver Chris Bell was kicked off the team yesterday after he was charged with threatening another player with an 8-inch knife Monday evening. Bell faces charges of making terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, two counts of disorderly conduct, and two counts of harassment after an encounter with teammate Devon Still at a team dining area. No injuries were reported. The team released a statement through spokesman Jeff Nelson yesterday morning. "Chris Bell, who had been previously suspended from team activities, is permanently removed from the team and will not be reconsidered to be a part of the team in the future," the statement read. According to the criminal complaint, Bell arrived at the commons at approximately 6:30 p.m. and approached Still, a redshirt freshman defensive end. He then pulled out a cooking knife from his sleeve and said, "Come get the case and I am going to stab you," referring to a cell phone case Still had accused Bell of stealing earlier in the day, police said. Bell had to be restrained by assistant coaches Mike McQueary, Dick Anderson and Kermit Buggs. As the two players were separated, Bell yelled: "I have more knives and a gun up here," according to the complaint.

I am going to guess that if you could sit down with Joe Pa, he'd tell you recruiting kids today is like being a parole officer and trying to figure out what kids pose the least of a threat to society. I am sure he'd scratch his head and also tell you, "what happened to kids and their parents these days?"

And I am sure this is a problem with every college coach who have a ton of talent out there but where that talent comes with serious character problems due to the break up of the family in many communities.

This kid not only deserves to be thrown off the football team, but he also should be thrown out of the university!

Good move JoePa. Can't keep a kid like that around.

April 9, 2008  09:38 AM ET

I'm sure he will will be kicked off campus after those statements...

But hey if I was a crazy WR going after a DE, I think I would bring a weapon too, just to level the paying field...j/k

Those crazy WR's.

Joe Pa looks like he has aged quite a bit the last few years. I probably would to if I had to deal with horse crap like this! I agree with the parole officer comment. That's how it is now-a-days!

Terroristic threats could actually turn into Federal charges and jailtime. It is a pretty good chance this guy is out of Penn State, but he may be getting enrolled at State Pen.

State pen, nice.

I love how he went after him with a cooking knife he pulled out of his sleeve....

April 9, 2008  03:52 PM ET

The Warden is right, maybe he wants a job being our Warden at State Penn... pathetic. by all accounts, Bell had the most NFL talent of anyone on the squad. What a waste.

April 9, 2008  07:47 PM ET
