Clippers may cut Livingston's pay

The Clippers expect to retain Shaun Livingston for next season, but the only question will be for how much. They could easily keep him by making a qualifying offer before July 1 and pay him $5.8 million next season. However, Livingston has missed the entire season, and his durability is a question mark. There is a chance the Clippers will not make a qualifying offer and negotiate a lesser salary. If they do that, however, he would be an unrestricted free agent that is able to sign with any other team.

I don't know who else would pay him alot of money. He should sign a 1 or 2 year deal with the Clips, and prove he's healthy. He's only 22, so he still has time to bounce back and sign a big money deal.

we will have him at the Heat for less money

If they can keep Maggete, Brand, and Livingston they might become playoff contenders but that is granted they are willing to spend money in the offseason on a few guards. They already got a great frontcourt with Maggette, Brand, Thornton, and Kaman. They just need some guards, and they can get some in the draft soon. BTW, Smush Parker is not the answers for PG...

Not to knock the porr guy but with an injury like his, he's a liability no matter where he goes. No team is going to take that risk unless he's a 2nd or 3rd option off the bench for depth.

Again, I feel terrible for the guy and I hope he's recovered but I don't know about him playing extended minutes as a starter. I'd hate to see another injury like that again (cringe).

Cut the cord.
- don't waste $ on a risk. You're not the Spurs, who've won 4 chanpionships, and can gamble on a risky investment. The kid is always hurt and he's career average is 7 pts & 5 assts per game.
You're the clippers.

PAYCUT!

April 9, 2008  12:19 PM ET

cut or use him to trade up in the draft for Rose.... with a lineup of Rose, Mobley, Maggette, Brand, and Kaman the Clippers would be a team to look out for next year

April 9, 2008  12:43 PM ET

Nobody will be looking out for the Clips in years to come....Maggette is gone and Mobley is garbage....

April 9, 2008  02:21 PM ET

Too bad. A kid with so much talent but no luck in the NBA.

I agree with mic', Maggette will be gone soon and Brand will too probably. The Clips' window closed last year.

April 9, 2008  04:14 PM ET

the clippers stink.. Let him leave, i doubt he wants to be there anyway.

April 9, 2008  08:48 PM ET

Ok here goes, Brand will stay(He wants to be close to Hollywood so he can continue to produce movies) Mobley will go, maybe join cassell on the celtics. Maggette will go thru free agency and get a better deal here ( his numbers this year have all gone up) The rookie Al Thorton is probably going to take the place of Livingston who is always going to be a risk to spend money on. Kaman if he can stay healthy has shown signs of being good, not great but good. I say we try to get Gilbert Arenas(we do have the money and cap room) And mic I believe you sound like a Laker Fan, so take your playoffs spot and leave the Clippers alone...At least we are not the Heat.

April 9, 2008  08:50 PM ET

The Clippers will keep him since he will be cheap. Cheap team, cheap players, cheap results.

April 9, 2008  08:58 PM ET

and Killbot at least we in Los Angeles have a window, how many NBA teams in North Carolina ??

Livingston has not proven anything. He hasn't played a full game since backing up for Sam Cassell. Come to think of it, he should have went to Duke to get some more skills. What are the Clips expecting? The next Magic? The next Steve Smith? Now with his knees all banged up, it's sad to say, but he might have only three or four years of pro-ball like Jay Williams.
