Several teams talking to Skiles

Scott Skiles' days as an unemployed coach will be ending soon. According to a source close to the former Bulls coach, Skiles already has been contacted by several teams and is eager to return to work. It is unclear if the Knicks are one of the teams that has expressed interest in Skiles. Newly appointed Knicks president Donnie Walsh thinks highly of Skiles, who along with Rick Carlisle and Jeff Van Gundy are among a small group of experienced coaches available. But Skiles and former Knick Mark Jackson have emerged as the top candidates to replace Isiah Thomas once Walsh makes the much-anticipated change.

The Knicks need serious house cleaninig and a disciplinarian like Scott Skiles should do the job.

I give a slight edge to Mark Jackson, only because Skiles has already "lost" a team. My fear would be "Who would be the better leader of a young team?"

Have no issues with Skiles style of play or his ability to coach, but can he hold on to the team. Doc, Byron, Avery, Phil, Pop, Nellie, etc. have proven to me that under tough times hold the team together. Scott lost a favored (he admitted that) playoff team.

enough said.

He has no fault in his players loss of interest, rejection of contracts (that were high in the first place), and players aggressiveness towards teammates and coaches.

He has no fault in his players loss of interest, rejection of contracts (funny how that backfired), and players aggressiveness towards teammates and coaches. If they don't care, how can you win?

You're taking about the knicks......lol- other than the fact they haven't rejected contracts- they just get bloated ones

Only other negative thing is we've already accumulated Chicago's garbage players, I am a bit concerned about getting their former coach.

ps- Stop with the Mark Jackson talk- we need someone that has coaching experience with this club. I am not bashing him, I would feel the same with anyone without a resume

go with van gundy...he's been getting too much sleep...you can't even see the bags under his eyes any more.....

zzzzzzzzzzz...

April 9, 2008  11:52 AM ET

Yay?

April 9, 2008  12:07 PM ET

I personally love Skiles... the Bulls complained about him and got him fired... where are they now? the only problem with Skiles is just that though... NBA players are all about the $ and hate to be told what they are doing wrong... he would be perfect in college where the players still have a love for the game

April 9, 2008  12:40 PM ET

I like Skiles, but I would much rather see Mark Jackson get the position, just because he's a former Knick.

April 9, 2008  12:59 PM ET

Get rid off Marbury, Randolph, Curry and maybe Skiles could coach there otherwise expect a Spreewell-Carolismo moment.

April 9, 2008  02:03 PM ET

I would rather see Skiles end up at a good college program than the NY Bricks.

April 9, 2008  02:20 PM ET

Eddy Curry will be thrilled about that. If Skiles is named the Knicks coach i'll in flip out. I hate his ass as coach. If he coached as he was coached in the NBA that would be cool. But he's just a white Isaiah as a coach. I'll end my 25 year marriage to the Knicks immediately. Matter of fact divorce papers are being drawn up now just in case. By the way good call, notbychoice!!!

April 9, 2008  03:59 PM ET

Seems that any coach that expects hard work and discipline is considered too harsh except on young teams right out of college. Skiles was really run out of Chicago because the players thinks he worked them too hard. Just because basketball is a "game" doesnt mean it shouldn't be a job, but because the players get paid so much more than the coaches, the players feel (probably correctly) that the team would always choose the player over the coach and that the player is the true "boss".

April 9, 2008  04:01 PM ET

P.S. Same thing with Carlisle in Detroit ... so many coaches "lose" teams from expecting them to put in the extra effort.

April 9, 2008  05:11 PM ET

This guy is a college coach not a NBA coach.

April 10, 2008  12:43 AM ET

Larry Brown is available.

April 10, 2008  12:44 AM ET
