A survey of basketball beat writers shows that the Most Valuable Player award is a two-man race between Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul. Bryant, named by all 21, had 10 first-place votes, eight seconds and three thirds. Paul, named by all 21, had 8-9-4. Boston's Kevin Garnett was a distant third, named on 15 ballots with 2-3-10. Only four players were named, the last being LeBron James of Cleveland, who made six ballots and got 1-1-4.

i still say chris Paul should be MVP

Paul and Kobe are great and have better numbers, but they haven't improved their team as much as KG has. That's what the MVP award is for.

If Chris Paul takes the Hornets from the lottery to the top seed, there is no other choice.

April 9, 2008  07:35 AM ET

I'm sorry, and I know I'm biased, but it's Kobe all of the way. I know that the Hornets weren't expected to much and are looking good to get the 1 seed in the West, but people forget that LA wasn't expected to do much either. Most "experts" had them finishing no higher than 7th (with some even saying that it was a longshot that they'd make the playoffs). Chris Paul has been remarkable, but the Hornets haven't had to deal with the same things that the Lakers have. The injuries, and not just to Bynum, Ariza and Gasol. Remember that Odom came into the season hobbled due to shoulder surgery. Fisher is playing on one foot. And Kobe has a torn ligament in his shooting hand that requires surgery. He hasn't won one because of a supposed lack of a serious attempt to get his teammates involved the past three seasons despite monster numbers, and he is doing that now as well. He didn't win one when he averaged 30 ppg, 7 rpg, 6 apg and 2 spg because he had Shaq on his team, and he shouldn't get credit for playing well with another superstar (which still makes NO sense). Like it or not, he's the best player in the league.

America Votes........ KOBE!!!

Kobe v CP3 v Garnett

April 9, 2008  08:03 AM ET

Kobe didn't have his team playing great basketball until they traded nothing for Gasol. Paul brought a lottery team to the playoffs but KG improved a worse lottery team to the best record in the NBA. I know the west is the tougher confrence, but Boston owned both the east and the west.

Chris Paul should win it..

April 9, 2008  08:10 AM ET

KG has made the bigger differance to his team, nash and Dirk won there MVP for that reason

April 9, 2008  08:15 AM ET

If you say KG made the bigger impact yoy forget that he also has Pierce and Ray Allen with him. And what 6-0 PG have you seen dominate recently other than Nash or Iverson? Paul has carried his team to the #1 spot in the touger conference.

evevn though i hate the guy.. and and my opinion every laker laker fan should also not like this guy 4 that act he trew out in the offseason.. he most certantly should b the mvp.. chriss paul .. best pg in the game in my opinion.. kg.. nothing but respect **** well but allen and peirce take away votes 4rm him. and lebron has been problably the best player in the game but he hasent gotten the cavs over the hump.. well atleast not yet trew the season.. their still strugglelin.. even after that overrated trade they had.. but in my opinion childish kobe has been the most valuable player 2 his team.. they do have alot of weapons.. the lakers that is.. but kobe has been the type of player that has ben carryiin this team all year.**** he goes the lakers go.. and i think that ppl around the leauge now that this is his year and look at the lakers.. who expected them 2 b this good.. iam not takiin away nothiin from cp3 but i think they have sum better talent witt peja, west, chandler 4rm cpte and a pretty good supportin cast.. nobody expected nothiin 4rm farmar, bynum, sasha, and the others.. he single handlely has made this team better. by his play and u could say leadership.. even b4 gasol the lakers were teariin it up ,, problably not **** good as they are now but he took this team and has made it better. adn i think he is do 4 1.. cp3 is still young and will win sum.. the same about lbj.. but this yea is a laker year baby.. and hopely kobe shows that he can lead a team without shaq.. cus he will have 2 get trew himm in the playoffs 2 do sumthiin.

i see your point but d williams has owned paul this season and has been putting up good numbers but he dont rate a mention i see that as strange

April 9, 2008  08:28 AM ET

People thought Bynum would be good. The Lakers didn't want to trade him for J. Kidd. So people knew he would be good. Don't forget about Lamar Odom. And D. Fisher brings leadership and experience as well. And let's not forget, the Lakers have a coach who has won 9 rings. Where was the leadership/experience on the Hornets? I guess you could say Peja has the most playoff experience But that's not saying that much.

Why Garnett can win:
-Celtics lead the NBA in lowest opponents PPG
-Turned the team from the worse to the best record in the NBA

Why Kobe can win
-Great scorer, can win games at the closing seconds
-Lakers are battling for top seed with injuries from both Bynum and Gasol and never hand a chance to play with a healthy team yet

Why CP3 can win
-Team turned around
-Having a better season than Nash when he won the award

Why KG won't win
-Has Allen and Rondo
-Stats went down

Why Kobe won't win
-Started winning with a healthy Gasol and Bynum
-The video tape and trade demands (nuff said)

Why CP3 won't win
-Started winning with a healthy Tyson and Peja
-I don't think he has nearly as many CP3 fans as there are Kobe and KG fans (125 voters, they can vote however they want)

April 9, 2008  08:36 AM ET

I should have said David West, not Peja for why CP3 won't win

April 9, 2008  08:50 AM ET

Here's one vote for Andre Miller. sfpfc who is that in your picture?

April 9, 2008  08:55 AM ET

Most Valuble Player in my eyes should be:

1. Garnett
2. Paul
3. Kobe

April 9, 2008  09:22 AM ET

laughs its the same old PR group of names with a few extras..................who cares....

April 9, 2008  09:23 AM ET

If kobe doesnt win, it shows that the mvp means nothing. Give it to the best player, Kobe.
