06:38 AM ET 04.09 | Kevin Love has probably played his last game for UCLA and will make himself available for the NBA draft, sources close to the player said Tuesday. While a source said junior point guard Darren Collison had also decided to leave early, Collison said Tuesday night that he had not made any decision on his plans for next season. Sources said UCLA Coach Ben Howland was told of the decisions Monday.

Agree with Hova and jj730.....and really, Love should just take a good look at Josh McRoberts to see where his NBA career will be this time next year.

April 9, 2008  09:34 AM ET

PG is one of the most difficult and demanding positions to play in the NBA. Collison will struggle and be another Chris Duhon at best. He can't shoot and can't defend nearly as well as Chris. Besides he is 6 feet maybe and is about 160lbs. They don't make anymore Iversons guys.

April 9, 2008  11:20 AM ET

Collison is a good player- will be a mid-late 1st round draft pick
get his 3 yr guaranteed $ for sitting on the bench......what's wrong with that?
- he has no draft upside- & will never be a top 5 pick, so why not go while you can
if he gets lucky, he plays a little, shows something & becomes a career back-up

(kinda like Augustin from Tx- only Augustin might have more upside)

Who the heck is giving these guys advice??? Bad move by both, considering their performance against other NBA-type talent. Like I posted a few days ago, Love needs to lose 15-20 lbs and increase his vertical leap. His inconsistent shooting is another worry. Collison needs to get stronger and develop some moves to get his shot off against bigger, more athletic guards. His shooting is inconsistent too.

Give them a chance. Their decision seems premature but the truth is that success on the professional level depends mostly on focus, will, and dedication, and only these players know if they have it in them. I look at some NBA players and they don't even resemble the players they were in college (Carlos Boozer, Andre Iguodala, and Danny Granger come to mind). I'm not convinced that a year in the college helps you much nowadays, in BB, especially with the NBDL getting stronger. If you don't feel ready then college will help you gain your confidence but the NBA rewards potential more than any other league so if you are mentally strong go for it.

The risk of injury I think tips the balance. If you are healthy and have some hype behind you, go for it. Another important thing for a young draft choice is the support of the organization - Gerald green for example. Having final four credentials can't hurt.

You guys are silly thinking that these players believe they are going pro to be superstars. There are a LOT of players who make a great living in the NBA who aren't named Lebron, Dwayne or Kobe. They make more money than you and I could ever hope to.

Love won't play center in teh NBA...most likely PF and yeah, he probably won't be a star....but he honestly isn't going to help himself by staying another year. His biggest flaw is conditioning and he'll get that fixed more quickly in the NBA than he will staying another year at UCLA. His overall skillset, however, is unmatched. He has great post presence in college but his nose for rebounding, strength and his phenomenal outlet passing are weapons that any team would love to get out on the floor for at least a few minutes a game.
Not only that, but Love is 19 (not 24 like certain players who have no business playing on a college team)....he's got a ways to go yet in the physical development department. NBA scouts no doubt see his upside.

As for Collison, it was already mentioned....he's not going to improve his draft stock by staying another year, UCLA isn't going to get back to the Final Four next year with the talent shift going on and this is the time to go pro for him.

Westbrook is a total unkown. He's a supreme athlete but can play very raw. He has huge upside and will probably go first out of all the Bruins (depending on team need of course).

NBA teams don't draft players in the hope that every one of them will be a first year superstar....don't be fools. It's an investment.

So long Kving and DC...thanks for the great memories

April 9, 2008  12:05 PM ET

Kevin Love will get abused in the post. Don't be fooled by one year of college "skills". And if he's conditioning is bad in a 35+ game season at 40 mins, how do you expect him to last for 82 games at 48 mins? Stay in school. Do some running and endurance drills. Come out next year.

"And if he's conditioning is bad in a 35+ game season at 40 mins, how do you expect him to last for 82 games at 48 mins?"

By working out more....it's really not that hard when it's your JOB

April 9, 2008  12:14 PM ET

Attn all UCladies....just ask J Farm how hard it is???
but Collison is not ready....as for Kevin Beach Boy....can't play with men yet

April 9, 2008  12:16 PM ET

When isn't playing in college basically an audition/interview for your job? I think Love has the ability to be a solid pro. But if he goes the NBA he's not ready right now. I'm pretty sure he doesn't need the money, so why not improve in college?

April 9, 2008  01:14 PM ET

BruinsWin- I agree. But at the same time, if love stays he is surrounded by a coaching staff that can prep him for the transition to the league, working on his weak points and making him a higher draft pick, thus making him more money on his guaranteed. DC is ready, the guy can play. But hey, im glad to see them both go!

April 9, 2008  01:57 PM ET

Neither of those guys will get better playing for Ben Howland so they both should go. Ben Howland is grossly ove as a coach. For those whose mouths are agape with disbelief over that statement because of the three straight final four appearances coaches cannot (95% of the time) win games but they can and will lose them. Ben Howlands insistence on perimeter oriented plays at the expense of post touches for Kevin Love is the SOLE reason they lost to Memphis. For years this team has won despite Howland not because of him.

April 9, 2008  02:22 PM ET

Big mistake, KL. lol@ATLfan15... Josh McRoberts. The difference there is that he was d00d00 in college too.

April 9, 2008  03:00 PM ET

What a surprise. (Love should have stayed.)

April 9, 2008  03:37 PM ET

Somebody must be blowing smoke up his arse because Love isn't anywhere close to being ready for the NBA .. he was huffing and puffing after a few trips up and down the court against Memphis and looks slightly overweight to me. Too much media attention has him thinking he's ready to "move on" and he'll get smoked in the NBA. Needs to stay, workout, lose weight, and try next year!
