The Yankees will be without Derek Jeter for at least the rest of this series against the Royals, but the Bombers are holding out hope that the captain can return this weekend against the Red Sox. Jeter was held out of all physical activity yesterday, spending most of the day in the trainer's room icing down his strained left quadriceps muscle. Joe Girardi ruled him out for the next two games, so Jeter probably won't do much to test his leg until Thursday at the earliest.

no Arod at short. I think they would avoid the media frenzy that would create. Although I admit it would be interesting to see Arod at SS again.

it might not be a bad idea to put Arod at short and Jeter at third when he returns Many think it should have been that way all along

Guys I am one of A-Rods fan. I to think he is a better SS than Jeter. However, you can't make this move. Jeter isn't going to move to 3rd or any other position. Jeter has been and I think still is a good SS.

Such a move could open a can of worms when Jeter return if A-Rod plays the position and make the plays Jeter can't. While I would love to see A-Rod back at SS, it's best not to do. Besides Jeter has be an overall stud in the most pressure packed city for any sport.

jeter doesnt have the arm for third base. a rod hasnt played shortstop in 5 years. moving them around wont make sense. if jeter goes on the dl, bring up gonzales for fielding and hope the yankees learn to score some runs this season.

I will wait until at least the All Star break before I begin contemplating what avater you will be sporting MEB;)

April 9, 2008  10:50 AM ET

Yankster, I agree, Jeter doesn't have the arm for 3rd. The only other option for him would be 2nd, but that's obviously not going to happen either. When Jeter comes back he is the starting SS. End of story.

April 9, 2008  10:53 AM ET

Arod will never play short again. He's gotten too big over the last few years & do you want hiim getting hurt/cleated trying to turn a double play ? Then we're really screwed.
Stop this dumb speculation
What's even stupider is moving Jeter to 3rd......

April 9, 2008  11:56 AM ET

A-Rod is better but it's Jeter's position until he retires, gets Chuck Knoblauch Syndrome, dies or gives it up willingly. It's sorta from the Lou Gehrig School of Yankee Business. I made that up but you should all get my drift. I'm for it.

Yes, seems like someone is having delusions of grandeur. hmmmmm? But I can wait to pick out the loser's avatar for now. And, btw, where in the world is BobBoston? He want in on this action, too?
And MEB you know the ground rules for the bet? Just wants to make sure we is all on the same page. :)))

im surprised they didnt mention how Arod went 0-4 with 4k's yesterday ... Pissed me off veryyy muchhh

An April series against the Sox isnt something worth rushing Jeter back early for. If the Yanks can just beat the Rays this year, they will be okay with losing a season series to the Beanie Babies.

Actually, becca i have bet against it. :)
And, MEB and becca no wearing of the opponents clothes required and no dating! maybe a manly steak at Gallaghers when we win and ya'll can get a corn dog or something but that is it.

I find this part hilarious :

With Derek Jeter out at least until Friday and possibly a DL candidate due to a strained left quad, the Yanks need somebody better defensively at short than Wilson Betemit, who has filled in the past two games.

Gonzalez, who was obtained from Arizona in the Randy Johnson deal, is a defensive whiz with trouble putting two good halves together at the plate. '

So they have no problem with the 2nd worst fielding SS in baseball playing SS on a regular basis, but they can't deal with Betemit filling in for him at SS temporarily cause of HIS defense?

Yankees website claims the Yankees are pleased with Betamit at short.
