Why Irish O-line will be improved

Irish coach Charlie Weis conceded it is a "big climb" for his offensive line to reach satisfactory performance. Right now, Notre Dame clings to tangible but tenuous reasons for encouragement. First, 11 of 12 linemen on the spring two-deep now are listed at 300 pounds or more, a beefing-up that line coach John Latina says "tells you it's important to them." Second, the group is a year older. Until San Diego State shows up Sept. 6, that's about it.

Too bad Weis doesn't have any collegiate eligibility left. I'm sure he could do some blocking.

Curious to know how they got these kids to add 30 lbs? I wonder if Weis was in the shower with them doing the injections himself???

Funny how a Michigan fan brings up steroids when that is the most logical reason for Rich Rodriquez to steal and destroy all WVU documents related to conditioning of athletes. You do remember that don't you?

Maybe the kids went on the Charlie Weis diet? Sorry, couldn't resist. I know this is a classless stupid comment.

Why will the O-line be improved? Because they can't do any worse.

April 10, 2008  08:59 AM ET

Don't worry about it Keith, it just shows your true character.

Come on Warden, I expect better from you.

As for the "story" think about this.... 95% of the football team from 2007 are Jr.'s & So.'s THEY ONLY WON THREE GAMES!!

They have been working out since the last game (in late Nov). So they've had four months to push weights, & get their **** in shape.

I say How can they NOT IMPROVE????
They gave up 50+ sacks last yr.
They couldn't run or pass block at all!

And, I'm not going to get all excited if we run for 150yrds & pass for 200 against San Diego State!!! (I expect numbers like that)

I'll wait to see how they do against michigan. Yet even michigan might not be a good game to measure them by, because of all the new players & coaches.

The team needs to be improved, not just the O-line. I'm not hating, I'm just saying.

April 10, 2008  09:53 AM ET

I agree PSForever. I mean, of course they will be improved. They were the worst unit in all of the nation last year. I think they gave up the most sacks or close to it. They are a year older, of course they are going to get better, you can't finish any worse than last.

April 10, 2008  10:57 AM ET

Notre Shame will be awful again due to a total lack of effort in their play.

April 10, 2008  11:28 AM ET

The O-line cant go anywhere else but up after the oh-so-great season they had last year...

April 10, 2008  11:31 AM ET

You're curious about how Charlie Cheeseburger got his players to put on 30 lbs? Seriously? Are you blind? The only thing he may have injected them with is some Ranch Dressing.

April 10, 2008  12:24 PM ET

I say rumor. Definitely a rumor. No truth here. At all.

April 10, 2008  01:19 PM ET

Why is the FSU fan on here talking dirt? You haven't had a worthy QB since Chris Rix took over the reigns. Almost over half of them were suspended for stealing or booted out; the New Bobby Bowden way of doing things. I usually refer to Miami as the Convicts, but I believe you have taken that title from Miami. Any where from Peter Warrick, the Great Heisman dope. I mean, I normally don't say things like that, because Neion Deion is a beast. Come on, get better... your status has existed like this the last 10 years. VT is the beast of the ACC now. Check your resume!

Looking at ND's roster, they didn't have any OT or OG graduate, and they had 1/3 of their centers graduate though, so I think they'll do better b/c of more experience this next season.

Interesting side note: on espn.com, cnnsi.com, and scout.com, ND's roster has 2 OG's and 15 LB's. crazy stuff. I couldn't find the 2007 roster on Notre Dame's offical website. It would automatically direct me to the 2008 spring roster anytime I clicked on the 2007 roster link. I guess they want to move ahead as quickly as possible.
