UCLA coach Ben Howland said that neither Darren Collison nor freshman center Kevin Love had made a decision about leaving for the NBA. Sources close to the players, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not yet authorized to make an announcement, have told The Times both will make themselves available for the NBA draft.

The LA Times have been wrong a lot lately. First that bogus Diddy and Tupac story, and now this.

I'm not from LA, and do not read the Times but their credibility doesn't look good to me.

I think Ben is projecting some of his wishful thinking

Keep telling yourself that Ben..

The writing is on the wall. Both players will go but are waiting for there big spectacle of a moment when they get to announce it in front of all the fans.

I don't think it is a good decision for either of them in the long run. Sure you get the money a year earlier. Love has the POTENTIAL to be a great player, but he is not refined enough to handle the NBA. He needs another year in college to improve his game.

Collison might be a NBA caliber player right now, but he needs to work on consistency.

Give each of them one more year in college and things could be much better for them come draft time and more importantly playing time and big contract time in a few years.

please go.

Love will be a role player at best in the NBA. He so slow + won't be getting any double-teams to show off his "miraculous" passing skills. Still probably a better pro than Hansbrough, though - more skilled.

Agree about skills, but Hansbrough has a great work ethic and is probably a better team player.

As far as Collison and Love, Ben: they're gone.

Collison needs a Brandon Roy like campaign during Roy's last year at Washington, prove he is solid and consistant
IMO opinion I feel that another year of college could do Love well and polish up all the aspects of his game.
another solid season by Love and he's a guaranteed top 5 the following year

April 10, 2008  02:27 PM ET

Collison should go-
he was shown to be succeptible against bigger guards, & still doesn't have a solid shot. His stock can only go down if he stays
- he'll be a mid 1st round pick & get his 3 rg guarantee

Love-
I think we all agree he'll have a solid NBA career as a back-up
Enjoy college man. Live it up on campus for another year- you;ll never get that back

April 10, 2008  05:03 PM ET

They are both seeing dollar signs. No chance do they come back.

c note

Yeah, Love is projected to go in the middle of the first round - high to my mind - but $$$ go with it.

trnsfer to ucsb collison and love

They should stay and do the right thing like Tyler Hansborough.

To be honest, I am not convinced that Love or Collison is NBA ready. Both have glaring physical weaknesses that will prevent them from being regular starters at the next level. Darren Collison is a speedy point guard, but physically weak and will have a tough time getting around athletic NBA power forwards. He won't be able to rely on his afterburners as an 82-game starter, so I see him in a career backup role. Also, he is not a proven leader and can break under pressure.

Kevin Love, as technically gifted as most players in the NBA, is not athletic enough to play center at the next level. He is a throwback player. But the center position has evolved into a power forward redux where many NBA centers can and will pull out from 15 feet and have good lateral footspeed. He needs another season in college to lose weight, build muscle and work on his explosiveness.
