Should Prince have a cheeseburger?

It might be somewhat impractical to point out that a baseball player has begun a season without a home run in his first nine games. But this is Prince Fielder, who averaged one majestic blast for roughly every three games he played last season, we're talking about here. Fielder was 0 for 11 in the series the Brewers just dropped to the Cincinnati Reds. Except for a double he hit off the base of the center-field wall against San Francisco a few days earlier, Fielder hasn't made real solid contact yet. He's batting .242 with more strikeouts (six) than RBI (five). This off-season, Fielder became a vegetarian, so, of course, he will hear it now, especially this weekend when the Brewers are in New York: Hey, Prince, have a cheeseburger.

Fannation friends, realize we are all daily witnesses to the downfall of sports journalism if (like me) you read Truth & Rumors each morning. This may be the worst tidbit yet (and it's not even the New York Post). I'm realizing everyday Bob Knight was correct in his assertions about sports writers.

This sire never has anything of relevance

April 11, 2008  08:57 AM ET

He's started out slow the last couple of years. Two years ago he started out 0-9 with 9 strikesouts, I'm pretty sure.

April 11, 2008  09:13 AM ET

Due to this story, I can no longer take Sports Illustrated seriously. I'll be reading my SI for Kids if anyone needs me...

I think he looks like Marlon Brado in the Godfather in this pick.

April 11, 2008  09:27 AM ET

His dad Cecil had a couple of great years, then he was never heard from again (except at the casinos).

I admit I've never actually read a T&R story. I just come here for the witty banter and edgy commentary. This is much better than anything a journalist could produce?
