Notre Dame QB considered transfer

Under different circumstances, Evan Sharpley could be Notre Dame's starting quarterback. But with sophomore-to-be Jimmy Clausen seemingly entrenched as the starter and blue-chip recruit Dayne Crist arriving in South Bend this fall, Sharpley's dream of starting for the Irish might be beginning to fade. Fortunately for him, his dream of playing professional baseball is more tangible than ever. Sharpley admits that he considered transferring to a school where he would have a chance to play once coach Charlie Weis made Clausen his starting quarterback. Sharpley will be a senior next season. He has an extra year of eligibility remaining, but time is running out. He might have more seriously considered following Zach Frazer and Demetrius Jones out the door if not for his brother and his baseball career.

Well it's no guarantee that Clausen actually plays well, so it makes sense for Sharpley to hang around.

Plus the kid does play baseball. He always has that sport to fall back on.

If you read the article from the Chicago Sun Times, you'll see most of the story is about his baseball skills. They only mention he THOUGHT about transfering.

fan nation just wants to start some crap!

Hey, Joe Montana wasn't starter for ND until all the other QB's got hurt or couldn't get the job done.

I bet we'll see a new Jimmy Clausen this year. He's put on over 15 lbs, and he's 100% healthy.

GO IRISH!!

A newer Jimmy Clausen? You mean he is GAYER?

April 11, 2008  02:11 PM ET

leave evan, charlie sold his soul to get jimbo clausen, he's going to start every game from here on out.

April 11, 2008  04:19 PM ET

He's been playing really well for the baseball team, so I'd consider football his fallback.

"A newer Jimmy Clausen? You mean he is GAYER?"

Truth, I think you ment to say "he is more gay" "GAYER" is not a word.

Marin - Why would be leave? He's a stud on the baseball team. If he wanted to leave he would have done it before now. After this year, he only has one year left.

Hey, look next to the Truth's picture it says GO IRISH!! HA HA

Sexton: FanNation always starts crap. Why do you only get mad when it's a ND story?

April 11, 2008  08:29 PM ET

Hova: Well. I quess it's because I'm a Notre Dame fan. I get mad at other "stories" I just don't post on them.

See, fan nation puts up ALOT of "stories" on ND because there're alot of people that don't like ND and they get a large number of comments on them.

That's fine, I understand it. ND is sort of Love/hate thing.

Good Story... People just worried about the Golden Domers doing something good. This is officially Charlie's team, he never recruited Sharpley in the first place, but the kid has shown heart, loyality and desire to play with the football team. He is a much better baseball prospect than an football prospect.

Meets the weekly useless ND football quota, way to go fannation. Is this actually a rumor or just $hit.
Next Week's Story: 3rd stringer Tommie Tommiesville considers leaving the team after seeing the combined awesomeness of Weiss, Sharpley, Clausen, and that phenomenal O-Line. Tommie says, "I didn't realize that this combination is the greatest assembly of coaches and players ever to grace the field, it's so good I gotta get out of here!!!"

Anywhere else, Sharpley would have been the starter and Clausen would have been given a year to learn the system. But then I guess the current IRISH system (3-9) is easy for a kid just out of high school to master.

And of course they have Ron Powlus as the QB coach. Big edge there.

Crist or Claussen, I do not see sharpley winning the job. Most likeley claussen
