Will Bears beat Lions to Mendenhall?

The Lions need a running back and Illinois' Rashard Mendenhall could be their pick with the No. 15 selection in the NFL draft this month. But NBC5-TV in Chicago reports the Bears might be interested in Mendenhall with the 14th overall pick. The station reports: Teams typically spend three, maybe four, hours with a potential draft pick on these visits, but Mendenhall's visit turned into a seven-hour affair capped off by dinner with head coach Lovie Smith, offensive coordinator Ron Turner and running backs coach Tim Spencer.

YES! Finally a good bears draft pick!

If I remeber correctly, weren't the Chicago fans fairly pumped up over Benson and Enis as well? Since Payton, you guys have hit a tragic slide in the RB's department.

PLEASE take him. Lions need an O-line before they grab any half backs.
Plus the draft is deep in RBs, and Mendenhall is a bit of a gamble that high, since he has never run from a pro-style offense.

Tim Biakabutuka! Not sure if its true, just fun to say.

biminator:
Forget saying it, spelling it correctly is impressive. Try the real name Tshimanga Biakabutuka. I'll bet his high school coach just referred to him as "Hey you" or just referred to him by his jersey number.

How dare you forget about Neil Anderson????

I wish Mendenhall was an Eagle....I love this guy and he'd make Westbrook even more dangerous.

Chicago is one of the last places I would want to play. What a dump!

April 11, 2008  10:27 AM ET

I never wanted Cedric Benson at all. I wanted the Bears to draft Braylon Edwards.
Benson had too many carries at Texas and looked burned out when he came into the NFL.
I dont believe that Mendenhall will be there at 14 anyway. Why not trade up for a change and take the guy that you really need.

Oh..... and Packer fans like their boyfriends **** just like their screen names.
Right Broadhead?

Thank whatever deity you worship that you won't have to.

April 11, 2008  10:55 AM ET

Big mistake. OT OT OT!!! and then WR. You have to draft need at this point.

April 11, 2008  11:02 AM ET

If the Bears draft Mendenhall, then they need to cut Benson. Let's face it, Cedric is a bust, is not a team player and is basically a me first type of guy. CUT him!

April 11, 2008  11:39 AM ET

Not a Bears fan but my gosh are they competing with the Lions for most stubborn draft tactics. Will Lions drafing a WR while Bears draft rb?

Seriously the Bears need to fix the O-Line. RB, QB, nobody is going to have success until they address those issues. Matter of fact they should draft O-line with their first two picks if they are serious about improvement.

Broadhead......what's your grip with Chicago.......oew you're from Green Bay!
That's the ticket!!!

April 11, 2008  12:04 PM ET

Broadhead likes to rip on Chicago and hides his profile so we don't see what kind of strip mall suburb he lives in. He probably thinks the Olive Garden is fine dining.
Get a clue.

Draft Mendenhall and keep Benson as #2. He ran much better in 06 as a two man system.

April 11, 2008  01:16 PM ET

There's a new Chili's opening up in Green Bay.

ok first off, i dont think we should draft a running back when our OL is extremely old and it has gaps bigger than the one between david lettermans teeth.

brown, gone, miller, gone, big gaps people...we need tackles and guards...but i wouldnt doubt we'd draft yet another running back...and why not make it easier for him to adjust to the crowd by coming home.
