The Bengals' need at wide receiver has increased since they waived Chris Henry last week, following his latest in a series of off-field legal entanglements. Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski attended a two-man workout at Oklahoma on Wednesday to watch and then talk with wide receiver Malcolm Kelly. Various Internet reports have the Bengals expressing interest in dozens of other draft prospects. The Bengals were reported to have held a private workout for Louisville wide receiver Mario Urrutia. The team has talked with Louisville tight end Scott Kuhn, as well as tight ends Matt Sherry of Villanova and Joey Haynos of Maryland.

Why? You have Chad johnson and Housh. You'd think they may be concerned about that awful defense and look to draft there

April 11, 2008  08:10 AM ET

Well, Henry is gone. Chad wants out. TJ isn't happy. Yeah, I think they need help at WR. Not sure if I'd pick one in the 1st Round, though. Go for Defense!

Agree with 700 Level Lifer - Cincinnati need defensive players. Try to avoid WVU.

Ya think? Man after Alex Smith, Dan Wilkenson, Kajana Carter, as so on and so on, does it really matter who they pick?

April 11, 2008  08:31 AM ET

I'm sure they've talked to other players at other positions too...

I think you mean Akili Smith. But yeah...as a Niners fan, Alex Smith is looking more and more like a bust. Of course multiple offensive coordinators and no playmakers at receiver might have something to do with it. John and Denise better kick Nolan to the curb.

Bengals thinking in draft - that would be a first.

April 11, 2008  09:07 AM ET

There isn't one worthy at 9, so I guess they are looking at later round prospects.

April 11, 2008  09:25 AM ET

Maybe they are thinking of trading Chad on draft day. They could be putting up a front to try to get a higher pick in return for Ocho when they say he will be there.

April 11, 2008  09:48 AM ET

unfortunately there isn't a 1st round wr worthy of their early pick. they are either going to overpay for an under-performer or have to trade down or pass on wr.

April 11, 2008  09:54 AM ET

If I am the Bengals, I am thinking of drafting a great Defense Attorney so I can keep my team on the field...I even trade up to get the one I want..

April 11, 2008  09:56 AM ET

In round two I go for a Psychiatrist who specializes in group therapy..

April 11, 2008  09:56 AM ET

It's no guarantee Chad will be there for the Bengals this year. I don't know if it's worth it to draft a WR in the 1st RD though. I'm sure they could get a nice one in round 2.

I think Mark Geragos is available. Not sure they could afford him, though.

Dr. Laura does group therapy, doesn't she?

April 11, 2008  10:19 AM ET

They do not need another damn wide reciver. They have 2 strong threats who each are a dominante number one reciver for any team. They surely need to do something about that god awful defence they have. They need to work on cornerbacks and the safties

April 11, 2008  10:24 AM ET

Chad Johson won't be leaving Cincinnati - sorry guys. Malcom Kelly will likely be gone by the time the Bengals pick in the second round.

There are many other taller WR's that could fill in as the #3, where Mr. Henry used to occupy. Although there isn't a ton of talent at the top (ie Calvin Johnson/Teddy Ginn from last year - both top 10 picks), this is a pretty deep WR draft.

I really like a couple guys - Manningham (UM), Jackson (Cal), and especially Devin Thomas (MSU). Great first-year slot wideouts - they all have return game potential, too.

And yes, the Bengals will probably concentrate on D for the majority of this year's draft. But, that doesn't mean they'll abandon their offensive philosophy and get complacent on that side of the ball. They had a great O in '05 and '06, and we saw that crumble a little in '07, mainly due to a lackluster line, inconsistencies in the run game, and bad decision making by both Palmer and his wideouts.

lady Peasalot ..All good choices. Would cost a lot against the cap, but could be done using signing bonuses and back loading the contracts. Dr. Laura could broadcast live from the locker room...I think you are on to something here...
