Ravens like McKelvin with 8th pick

Word around the NFL has the Ravens possibly taking Troy cornerback Leodis McKelvin with the No. 8 pick in the NFL draft later this month. There are some who would consider that a stretch, but McKelvin does have a favorable upside. Because of his versatility, McKelvin is the kind of player Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome likes. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound McKelvin is also a returner who averaged 17.4 yards on punts and 23.2 yards on kickoffs last season. Of course, his primary function with the Ravens would be as a corner, either as a starter or a nickel back behind Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle.

good thing there are no QB's there for you at #8. guess air mcnair is your long term answer.

why you gots to be hatin on the Ravens Vaughn...MCNair have a bad year because Todd Heap sat out most of it....leaving Clayton doublecovered and Mason too slow to get open down the field. Simple. Boller didnt do any better

Matt Ryan will be the pick, which is an awful pick though. The Ravens defense is undisciplined and the offense sucks. They will be terrible again next year.

I guess the Ravens have high hopes for Troy Smith.

How can a team go this long without developing a competent quarterback? You may be right, sacked, they may actually be looking at Smith for the future.

Hopefully this is a smoke screen or they are hoping to pick up Falco or Brohm early in the second round.

April 12, 2008  01:17 PM ET

I think Ryan will be there at 8.

Who ever the Ravens draft with the 1st pick they are going to be an NFL starter for a long time.

The Ravens draft record is impecible. They will get a qb in the draft thats for sure.

April 12, 2008  05:23 PM ET

Ravens don't need a QB, they took Heisman winner Troy Smith last year and he played well the last couple of games in '07. Why would they want someone else?

April 12, 2008  05:34 PM ET

I just lost my cluds....... Caution, watch out for potholes in Iowa.

Chris ain't wrorried 'bout no nickles and dimes behind his heels....

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound McKelvin won't last. Too small.

April 12, 2008  06:01 PM ET

Trade down and take him later because it is a stretch to take him at number 8.

April 12, 2008  06:22 PM ET

Trade the pick to Cleveland for Brady Quinn and a 4th round pick.

April 12, 2008  07:46 PM ET

Cameron made a very good QB out off Drew Brees. He's a whole 6' tall.
Samari can't start anymore (good nikel). Over the last few years the best players in the draft are CB's & DT's. None of the QB's in this draft are any better than the ones they have. Why waste the money & pick on a QB.

April 12, 2008  08:49 PM ET

Good Luck Raven fans..this team is going in the wrong direction, STILL! ozzie newsome knows how to select players, but he might not know when!!

April 12, 2008  10:18 PM ET

Troy State product, D. Ware has panned out for us and that CB is very good, and I think that they are reaching with taking him @ #8!

April 12, 2008  11:46 PM ET

Ryan at 8 isn't nearly as attractive as Flacco or Brohm at 40 or so.

April 13, 2008  04:22 AM ET

I'm not hating on the Ravens, but you made my point for me. they do not have a QB. Mcnair can not do a thing in a suit and Boller has shown he can't do a thing. You at least need a healty serviceable QB and they do not have one of those. as good as AIr Mcnair is he is injury prone now.

Patriots might take this guy.
