What's wrong with Andruw?
Posted: Saturday April 12, 2008 09:15AM ET
For the first time this season, Andruw Jones found himself batting seventh after previously batting fourth (once), fifth (three times) and sixth (four times). His .129 batting average was one of the main reasons, although his lack of a home run and just one RBI heading into Friday's game certainly didn't deserve a spot any higher in the order. Certainly the Dodgers have not been following the motto of the stock market when it comes to new center fielder Jones. The idea in investing is to buy low and sell high. With Jones it has been the other way around as the Dodgers bought high this offseason to the tune of two years and $36.2million. The low came Friday night when Jones was dropped in the batting order.

Report Offensive CommentJones is like Gagne: unless he goes back to taking steroids, he's done. Coletti's making me long for Depodesta.

Report Offensive CommentGet used to it, Dodgers fans......until Andruw starts listening to the hitting coach, his avg will hover at (or below) the Mendoza line. Go Braves!
did I mention that I hate working on Saturdays? :-)

Report Offensive CommentATLFan15 - I thought I was the only one....Now I feel better....I agree with what you said about him listening to his hitting coach...He puts too much weight on his back leg, causing him to drop his right shoulder through his swing...He has had this problem his whole career, but for some reason the past couple of years, his form has looked worse than a little-leaguer...

Report Offensive CommentThe Braves really know when to hold 'em and fold 'em.

Report Offensive CommentWow. Jones with the Dodgers may actually be worse than Edmonds with the Padres.

Report Offensive CommentWhat's wrong with Andruw? What's wrong with the management that is paying him over 18 million for the next two years? Geez, right now baseball bites, real bad. I have seen the future and it does not work.

Say what? You want the weight to shift to the back leg before launch, Charlie Lau!
I think his issue is he's too much of a free swinger, he EXPANDS the strike zone all the time by swinging at bad pitches. A lot of Latinos would do well to work deeper into the counts. It's great to be aggressive because many times you'll get the sweetest fastball on the first pitch but I wonder how much Jones studies film to learn tendencies of various pitchers.

Report Offensive CommentIt is easy to strike Andruw out because he always chases the same pitch with two srikes: low and away - it doesn't matter how far out of the strike zone it is. He WILL swing at it....and miss. Seen it for too many years here in Atlanta. Trust me 18 mill/year was a bad deal for the Dodgers.

Report Offensive Commenthes never been a high average hitter to begin with. now hes older and FATTER and much slower and can't hide behind athletic ability anymore. the braves didn't win 14 straight titles by accident, they know when to let people go. dodger fans should be grateful they were only dumb enough to give him two years

Report Offensive CommentIt's hard not to think of steroids in Andrew Jones' case. He's been bad and fat for 2 years now - ever since they started seriously testing for steroids.

Nah...Jones can still play some great center field. Edmonds, OTOH...sigh...what a disastrous signing.

It's not racism. They typically are noticed by the scouts in latin america based on their power. They know that's where the big contracts are, so that's where they put their focus as opposed to contact.
When someone says something about a race, it's not always racism.

Report Offensive CommentDodgers man,,, why do you sign these has-beens? Did any of the players that your team has picked up ever produced? Go out and sign guys like Vlad Guerrero or Alex Rodriguez. Don't sign guys that other teams, like Atlanta, didn't even offer a chance to re-sign with there own team.
Go back to the farm and send up players that can play. Oh, and Juan Pierre needs to go back to the Marlins while you're at it.
