Giants: Shockey not on trade block

Whether Jeremy Shockey returns for his seventh season with the Giants has been a point of conjecture ever since the Giants won the Super Bowl without him, and the Saints tried to trade for the four-time Pro Bowl tight end. The Giants turned down the Saints - who reportedly offered a second-round draft pick plus safety Roman Harper - and general manager Jerry Reese insists Shockey is not on the trading block. Former Giants backup quarterback Tim Hasselbeck during Super Bowl week ripped Shockey, saying he was a major distraction to Eli Manning, a claim Manning does not support.

hmmm. Tiki gone, Shockey hurt and did not play, Giants come together and play as a team and win the Superbowl. interesting.

He needs more tatoos.

April 12, 2008  08:54 AM ET

They are a better team on the field with him than without him. Reese has no intention of trading him. Boss filled in nicely in the play offs, but he is not in the same class as Shockey. This is a rerun of an old post. End of story.

I agree with 50yearfan. They need him.

I'm wondering if Tim Hasselbeck gets a Super Bowl ring because he was a Giant for most of the 2007 season or does he not get one since he left the organization for Arizona before any playoff games. Does anyone know?

April 12, 2008  10:25 AM ET

Hasselbeck's wife put him up to it. I don't want to say that the fans would riot, but there would be many, many unhappy Giant fans if Shcokey were to go. He has a key to this city.

April 12, 2008  10:28 AM ET

please they dont need him. Eli played the best he ever did in his career without him. Plus they got the ring withought him while he was sitting there drunk as hell.

Hasselbeck was released before the start of the 2007 season.
So, No ring

Thank you for answering my question.

A no-doubt humbled shockey will be back in blue for 08 and the team will be stronger for it.
The combo of shockey, boss and burress will be hard to defend, unliked the championship the gnts just won.
yeeeaaah boooiiiii !!!!!!

lady Peasalot ..I see your question was answered. Not only did they release him, he was beat out of the clip board job by Lorenzen ( I am bigger than the lineman that block for me ) and Wright ( I have never made it anywhere ). When you are not good enough to beat those two guys out, there may be a little bitterness in his analysis of the Giants.

Thanks 50yearfan...........I don't like him or his wife.
Maybe she'll leave New York and stay in Arizona.

"Giants: Shockey not on trade block"

Why not? They won a Super Bowl without him.

April 12, 2008  02:12 PM ET

By the looks of the picture, he makes a great cheerleader.

April 12, 2008  02:24 PM ET

If it hadn't been for Shockey, the Jints might not have been in the SB in the first place, especially in the second half of last season when Burress was gimped.

What is it with NY newspapers and punning headlines?

April 12, 2008  02:26 PM ET

Trading Shockey would not be an awful move. In fact I think it would be a positive. We often killed Eli for pass accuracy over the course of the last few seasons, but if you were to go over the tape, you would find numerous passes hit Shockey in the legs, in the back, or to the wrong side. Yes - Eli has not been accurate. But why didn't he have that trouble with the other receivers and tight ends? Something has got to give there.

He openly called out Eli on the field, he ran poor routes, he is routinely hurt, and we won a Super Bowl with him sitting in a suite. I know it seems like jumping to conclusions after a title year - but he's got to go. And a 2nd round pick plus a safety for the guy would be sufficient in my eyes.

If it hadn't been for Shockey, the Giants may not have made it? Huh? He was hurt. He didn't play. At all. And Burress played through his injuries. Eli went to other targets. Amani Toomer stepped up. Our running game and defense were superb. The NY papers have it right this time. This shouldn't just be speculation.
