Elway to Cutler: Keep it quiet

John Elway says he had no problem with Jay Cutler calling out a teammate last week. But it's not how the Broncos' legendary quarterback would have done it. He would have kept his conversation with Brandon Marshall behind closed doors. Upon being told what Elway said, Cutler said he was surprised his comments last week about Marshall had gotten so much attention. "If I would have known it was going to be such a big story and get picked up by the national media like it did, I probably would have chosen my words a little more carefully," Cutler said.

In this day and age you never know where the microphone is.
"Could you speak into my lapel pin, please?"

Maybe good friend Phillip Rivers could intercede?

April 12, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Elway has been gone 10 years now. Who cares how he would have handled it a generation ago?

April 12, 2008  09:39 AM ET

so in the age of net, when anything can go viral. a qb is shocked when a non story becomes a story?

Stan: "Nice to meet you. You kinda suck, but my dad said you might be good someday."
Cutler: "...thanks"

Public floggings create more disrespect than respect.

Cutler to Elway: ****

Cutler to Elway; thanks for the warning. The media does have a tendency to blow certain comments out ot proportion.

It's called a role model, Hllywd. These punks need to understand that they are looked upon as leaders and role models, not over payed spoiled brats. The Elways, Montanas, Aikmans, Youngs, etc, accepted the role. You lead a team, be a leader on and off the field. Here that Jeremy Shockey?

Yeah, like the role models that come out of dallas like, Nate newton michael irvin, mark stepnoski, or their steriod suspended coach or gun toteing HC switzer ??
You should try to think before you type, because your really not that bright .

I forgot to mention the "role model" Pacman that the team wants to add....Remember kids, "you too" can be like one of the cowboys...If you can do the "time" and find good lawyers. AAhahaahaaa!!

April 12, 2008  02:09 PM ET

Pacman is out of place on a Broncos thread. The above comment belongs on the thread to the left.

localboy54, I certainly agree with you about America's greatness. It's much easier to say you're #1 then it is to actually BE #1.

The best of America can be found by reading an American History book.

Cutler is the ugliest person in the NFL.

Look at that face..just makes you wanna puke

April 12, 2008  03:08 PM ET

God I'm so tired of this. What Cutler did wasn't bad at all, and Elway said a lot more than that little quote. If you saw the whole interview, of both Elway and Cutler, you would realize that the media, including the person who wrote this, are jackholes...

April 12, 2008  04:40 PM ET

Aero, those heels can be a real problem. What are we talikng about again?

April 12, 2008  05:39 PM ET

Jay looks like he could cut butter. Way to go Jay Cutler!!!!

April 12, 2008  05:50 PM ET

For the record: The Broncos have won ONE play off game since Elway left in 98...The heck with Cutler, How does Shanahan still get so much power in Denver? What team would keep a coach that won one play off game in ten years?

Cutler to Elway - ''shove it up your ass" !!!
