Ogden playing coy with Ravens

Posted: Saturday April 12, 2008 08:49AM ET

Ravens left offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden, who has been selected to the Pro Bowl 11 times in his 12 NFL seasons, visited Baltimore recently for an autograph session during a 2000 Super Bowl team reunion. Ogden hasn't informed management yet, but he did tell some of his former teammates that he was going to retire before the start of the 2008 season. That's no surprise, but it's about time Ogden let team officials know about his decision. But knowing Ogden, and his desire to stay out of the limelight, he might let Ozzie Newsome know through a text message.

Playing coy gets you ignored 9 times out of 10. Better to be up front about it.

He should tell the team before the draft ,just for common courtesy.
But, even if he tells the team before the draft; he's going to retire, it's not like there's an ogden anywhere in this draft (especially at 8) that they could fill his spot with an equal caliber player.
If ryan somehow falls to 8 I think the ravens grab him.

Maybe he should seek a heath food counselor...he will balloon up to a ton...

Great, now the Ravens won't have a QB or anyone to block for one.

Is Coy good lookin'???

Report Offensive Comment

You can't blame him if he does retire. The Ravens don't have a great quarterback and the road to another Super Bowl victory certainly won't be easy.

He should have retired 3 years ago.

Report Offensive Comment

wow! did he ever become a star?last time i heard his name was on draft day!!!(when he was drafted)

This is the time that he need to do it so that the team can decide whether or not to replace him with the #8 pk. If that is true that is very selfish of him!

Haha..I love that picture.

He wants to do the same thing Strahan did in New York.Wait till it's time to play so he will not have to go through all the reps in training camp.He getting older, and it takes longer for his body to accept all the conditioning it takes to get ready for the preseason. He rather come in at the start of Preseason and get back into his routine. He's vetran and been there for a while and some times that works if you kept yourself in condition.

OMG look at all these morons !!!

sevenskins, **** are you talking about ? he should have retired 3 years ago ?!
are you effing nuts ? keep hatin' just because the skins have never and will never have a LT as good as Ogden. He made the pro bowl, again, last year and has for many years now in a row. maybe he should retire now, but not 3 years ago...

as far as what Hermie said, i really hope his post(s) was a poor attempt at humor because if he was really serious i have only one thing to say to him:

Didn't baltimore pick up Jared Gaither? How did they like him, I thought he looked good and would step in for Ogden when he retired. And ogden was one of the best in teh league, some of you guys are tripping.
