Mets fans let Santana have it
Posted: Sunday April 13, 2008 08:20AM ET
Gabe Kapler, a former backup guy in Boston, a guy who ruined his Achilles on the bases one night and thought he was never coming all the way back from that, turned on a Johan Santana fastball that the radar gun said came in at 89 miles per hour, and when it went over Angel Pagan's head in left and over the wall it was 5-2 for the Brewers and Willie Randolph came to get the ball then. And when Santana walked off, even he found out how edgy Mets fans are about everything this season, because of the way everything went wrong last September. So even the new guy, who had nothing to do with last September, heard some boos yesterday. If you think Mets fans are going to let bygones be bygones, think again. "I know a lot of people are expecting a lot of things out of me," Santana said in the interview room when it was over. "Today was a game I lost and that's just about it."They asked him if he ever heard boos in Minnesota and first he said that sometimes he doesn't hear anything when he is pitching and then he said, "If they boo, that's fine. That's a history they got from not being so good."

Because Mets fans are NY'ers.
& we have short term memory
you do something bad- you get booed
You do something good- you get cheered.
It's nothing personal Johan- just business

Report Offensive CommentAs a Twins fan, I am really hoping this is a sign of things to come. Not because I hate the Mets but in the hope that the Twins don't come out of this with too much egg on their faces. Santana gave up a boatload of HRs last year so hopefully thats the Santana they gave up and not the two-time Cy Young winner.

Report Offensive CommentAnd people were mad that they traded him in Minnesota? The Twins were smart he pitched like crap last year and they werent going to win anything with him so they were smart and got some average guys for him.

Report Offensive CommentSantana pitched great against the Braves but the Mets left him high and dry. This time he returned the favor.
I forgot how good the Twins have been in the past.

Report Offensive Commentthere is simply no excuse for Santana to ever lose a National League game if his team gives him at least 1 run

Report Offensive Commentnotice how the NYTimes always plays up BoSox victories over Yankees -- seems like every story about games between these two teams should carry big notice that NYTimes owns a piece of the BoSox

Report Offensive CommentThe Mets fans were talking all sorts of crap at the start of the season. Where they at now? The Mets are not locks for the postseason, even with four of the best players in baseball. New York could use a couple more role players, and the fans there better be worried. They could right the ship, but it's no guarantee.

Report Offensive CommentHe never got booed in Minnesota, not once. But that was the weird thing about him last year was all of the sudden he was giving up home runs left and right, yet he still arguably had some of the best pitching stats in baseball last year.
As a Twins, fan I'm glad so far the media can suck it. Gomez is looking good the Garza/young trade looks great.
