Cowboys officials continue talks with several major companies regarding naming rights for their new stadium in Arlington. Owner Jerry Jones has spoken to numerous Fortune 500 companies in the United States and overseas about putting their name on the estimated $1.1 billion stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2009. Sources said Mr. Jones wants to work with a company that has established itself not only in the United States but also globally and is in strong financial shape. "I do believe AT&T is one they have talked to," Arlington Mayor Dr. Robert Cluck said. The naming-rights deal could be the richest in sports history, sports marketing experts have said, because of Jones' marketing prowess and the team's global brand strength. The Cowboys, according to Forbes magazine, are the world's most valuable sports franchise at $1.5 billion, and they play in one of the top five media markets.

"Cowboys stadium calling AT&T?"

Yeah, but they didn't have enough bars so they had to call from their Verizon mobile.

April 13, 2008  11:45 AM ET

They should name it after Jones and call it Skeletor Stadium

April 13, 2008  11:53 AM ET

Since extra taxes on hotels, car rentals and the General sales tax on everything you buy there is helping to pay for the house for Jerrys Kids, I think it should be called Taxas Stadium.

50,
nice one! I'm embarrassed at the opulence, standard over the top who the heck can afford this type of construction. What about the fan?

April 13, 2008  11:57 AM ET

Its all about the "now". Soldier field and Arrowhead stadiums have a lot history, but its what your team does on the field now. Its all about the money and which owner adapts to what people want today. Jones is a business man that continues to grow, people can't hate him for that. I bet their are a lot of other teams that would love Jerry Jones as there owner, because he is all about winning for the organization and is willing to do anything to win. A lot of owners have the money, but don't spend it on their franchise. Jerry sold 300 million dollars worth of his own real estate to add to the construction of this stadium, now thats an owner that wants the best.

Hahahahahahaha...that's funny one. Arrowhead? Storied name? One championship does not a icon make. Arrowhead is synonomous with losing these days.

If that's the case they the Redskins stadium should be named "Dan Snyder is an Idiot" stadium, right?

April 13, 2008  12:01 PM ET

They should follow the example of other new stadiums and call it "Texas Stadium by AT&T" or whomever is sponsoring it.

April 13, 2008  12:03 PM ET

Think about what this means for other teams......YOU KNOW they will have to one up Dallas's team (I hate the cowboys & I live in Arlington,TX)....so other teams in large markets will have to make improvements...if the cowboys got 1.1 billion...that mean NY and Chi will have to do at least that....the what happens to Tampa and Jacksonville....Crazy

April 13, 2008  12:05 PM ET

"Dr. Robert Cluck"? Shouldn't they be calling KFC?

April 13, 2008  12:15 PM ET

why not just call it 'Jimmy Jones Stadium' and be done with it -- which emperor built Rome's colosseum? -- anyone remember Vespasian and his son Titus? -- but we'll all remember AT&T, that's for d*mn sure

April 13, 2008  12:17 PM ET

Tampa and Jacksonville don't have the allure that Dallas has had since they came into the league. I don't care what anyone says, they do represent American Football worldwide. Of course everything is going to be bigger and better in Texas. That's what Texas is all about. Cocky? Yes. Proud? Yes. Loud and Boisterous? Hell YEAH!

Isn't Arrowhead a sponsered name anyways?

"Hahahahahahaha...that's funny one. Arrowhead? Storied name? One championship does not a icon make. Arrowhead is synonomous with losing these days."

Arrowhead is one of the loudest stadiums in the league and the Chiefs still have a ridiculous home record.

In fact, from Wikipedia:
"As of the end of the 2006 NFL season, Arrowhead Stadium has a consecutive sell-out record of 141 games (17 seasons) dating back to the home opener in 1990. The Chiefs have a 102-34 home record at Arrowhead stadium since 1990, the best in the NFL."
