As it turns out, Wes Helms got traded for $1. That is all the Marlins had to give the Phillies, who agreed to pay his $2.4 million salary this season. (He is under contract next season, though the Marlins could buy him out.)

Can the Marlins really afford to make this kind of move? I guess attendace is up this year by two peoples.

April 13, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Wow, either the Phillies head office are idiots or Wes Helms sucks to no end.

He people have you check other team the frigging standings lately the marlins are 7-3 and are in second place there second in league behind Arizona in homers they hit 6 in one game I dont see tigers doing **** and there payroll is bigger, We have more power then the problem is our startin pitchin is lame but out bullpen is a lot better then any major leagues team.

April 13, 2008  10:35 AM ET

Marlins got jobbed. Wes Helms is worth only 75 cents.

April 13, 2008  11:18 AM ET

I think Helms should be paying the Marlins...

April 13, 2008  11:39 AM ET

This just in.... the Marlins are in first place and have one two Championships since '97. Their front office seems to know what it's doing with a really really really low budget.

April 13, 2008  11:50 AM ET

A whole dollar!?!?!?

With the Marlins payroll, that is a very questionable move.

April 13, 2008  12:24 PM ET

April 13, 2008  12:28 PM ET

April 13, 2008  12:30 PM ET

poor helms - talk about feeling unwanted.

April 13, 2008  01:02 PM ET

Isn't $1 like 30% of the Marlins payroll this year? Those crazy guys in Miami went on a spending spree! I heard to celebrate their acquisition they took the whole team out to PF Changs to celebrate!

April 13, 2008  02:00 PM ET

Phillies got a great deal on Helms.

April 13, 2008  02:21 PM ET

How is Garza doing?

April 13, 2008  03:02 PM ET

I think I could fetch a Lincoln in a trade.

April 13, 2008  03:02 PM ET

And a $5, not a 1 cent Lincoln.

April 13, 2008  04:57 PM ET
