Mets victims of Rickrolling

The Mets are desperately trying to find the right tune to start the eighth inning at home games. They ran a poll on their Web site to get fans' votes on this issue, but due to an Internet phenonemon called Rickrolling, Rick Astley's No. 1 smash from 1987, "Never Gonna Give You Up," was the winner. Rickrolling, by the way, is an Internet prank where you will be duped into clicking on a link that will send you to Astley's video on YouTube. Another aspect of the 'Roll is playing the song loudly in public places to distract and annoy unwilling listeners - which is exactly what happended Tuesday at Shea, where the song was played and greeted with enough boos you thought Scott Schoeneweis was singing.

That's a terrible song. Maybe "Hanging Tough" is in order.

I agree with the Pinhead. Safety Dance is the obvious choice.

"Pencil Thin Mustache" or "Let's Get Drunk and Screw" by Jimmy Buffet. The first for obvious reason and the second just because....

this story is actually pretty funny in my opinion, but it has absolutely nothing to do with sports. i could give a **** if the mets fans are happy during the top of the 8th inning. and THIS makes fannation?

Ha, I just got rickrolled the other day by a coworker. I didn't realize it was this big.

(don't ask)

that is the most played song on your iPod, isn't it? Just admit it.....its the first step to recovery!

April 14, 2008  10:34 AM ET

Phillies fans were actually behind the write-in votes to get the song played. It's all over youtube now.

Oh, dear god... what a mistake. Almost as bad as having the Baja Men perform "Who Let The Dogs Out" at the 2000 World Series.

There's a Philly conspiracy here somewhere...

anything is better than that god awful rally monkey song/dance crap that the angels have.

of course this assumes the song "cotton eyed joe" was never recorded - what a piece of crap that is.

Just pick something from Ozzy and be done with it!
