MLB's least productive batter is...

Statistically speaking, David Ortiz is the least productive batter in all of major league baseball, at least among those who actually have a pulse, or who don't play for the Tigers. No, seriously, folks. Papi is looking up at everyone. He is hitting worse than all those slick-fielding shortstops who ought to be hitting 10th. He is hitting worse than all those anonymous backup catchers, the ones who get an extra-base hit every third week or so and who get around the bases as if carrying the entire Kentucky Derby field on their backs. He's hitting .070. He's slugging .140. He's a complete and utter mess.

Maybe it's because someone next door has his lucky jersey and they're holding it proudly in the air.

Tony Pena Jr. is batting .033 Big Papi is not the worst.

April 14, 2008  08:07 AM ET

he'll be fine. if i was a yankees fan i wouldnt be worry about how unproductive papi is and start worrying about that young pitcher that they've already sent to copperstown. 2 innings??? wow

April 14, 2008  08:32 AM ET

Copperstown is not nearly as prestigious or as cool as Silver city or Goldville.

April 14, 2008  08:47 AM ET

hahah nice

April 14, 2008  08:48 AM ET

More proof he and the Sox suck

April 14, 2008  08:55 AM ET

Papi not bad. Some guy giving me $3 million on his hitting two home runs today. You think we have stupid Bos fans around here?

We do not!

April 14, 2008  08:56 AM ET

I love it when you call me Big Flopi.

April 14, 2008  09:00 AM ET

hahah biminator, you wanna talk about flopping.....AKA the city of detroit

April 14, 2008  09:05 AM ET

Yeah, Detroit does have a tendency to flop worse than Boston. Like in the superbowl this past year. Wow was that embarassing. Or maybe the almost century long MLB championship drought. Good thing theyve made the NBA playoffs a every year straight for the past decade...

As I said yesterday: it's still too early. Call me in a month.

April 14, 2008  09:50 AM ET

Could even call you in 6 weeks Hyper, thats how early it is. People were in winer wear at the game.

April 14, 2008  09:50 AM ET

winter wear that is

April 14, 2008  09:52 AM ET

As a lifelong Yankee fanm there is nothing I like better than Ortiz not playing, but the law of averages tells me that if he is slumping now, it will only mean tat he comes on stronger for the rest of the season. The man is a hitting machine, especially against us.

Do you promise to call in 6 weeks, Whalers? Don't stand me up again!
