Leyland loses it after Tigers loss

His team had been shut out for the fourth time this season and second game in a row. His hitters could not produce more than one hit in an inning, while his pitchers allowed two grand slams in an 11-0 loss to the White Sox. And Tigers manager Jim Leyland decided he had seen enough. On Sunday, for what is believed to be the first time this season, Leyland yelled at his team after a loss. Their record, the worst in the majors, is 2-10. "I finally got (ticked) off," Leyland said. "I'm to the point where I didn't hold it in very good, and I meant what I said. I'm not going to get into what I said. That's nobody's business. There was one thing that sticks out to me right now that's going on, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back with me. And that's why I'm (ticked) off. It's glaring."

Well, at least the folks in Detroit have the Red Wings and Pistons.

The Tigirls are the most disapointing team in MLB, and it's gonna be that way for some time. By the time they turn it around, they are going to be tooo far behind the White Sux, Indians, and Royals. At least the Twinkies suck more.

Maybe Jimbo should just leave????

He's probably up to three packs a day now. Cigarettes aren't the answer Jim...crack is.

All this may do is make sure the Sox and Yanks make the playoffs. If Tigers stay that bad then the Wild Card will be handed to the Yanks or Sox depending on who wins the division.

Leyland was right not to jump on his team early, but it is good now that he has finally done it. This slump is on the verge of becoming a disaster. They have to turn it around now, and with the pitching AND hitting being non-existent I have to wonder if they can before it is too late. I will, however, keep the faith!

Cabrera is feeding the team to many cheeseburgers !!!!!! LoL

April 14, 2008  09:20 AM ET

Sad, as I picked them to win it all this year. We'll see how the rest of the season plays out.

April 14, 2008  09:31 AM ET

jim doing what he does best. he did something similar last year and they started playing better.

April 14, 2008  09:32 AM ET

Jamman, it is sad that you picked them to win it all. You had seen who made up their pitching staff, right?

April 14, 2008  09:33 AM ET

To all those so sure that this lineup was going to score 1,000 runs -- the Tigers are on pace to score 446.

April is always the time to panic.

April 14, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Who was he more ticked at, his pitchers for giving up 11 runs or hits batters for not scoring any? Thanks for showing up Tigers.

After all that money that was put out and the retrun is coal at this time. But diamonds come from coal and things will get better.

April 14, 2008  10:26 AM ET

They are going to have to play real hard in June and July to make up for this, there is a price to pay when the do get it turned around.

April 14, 2008  10:33 AM ET

I have no doubt that they will start to hit.

It's their worst in the majors team ERA of 5.94 that they're not going to cost them the playoffs.

April 14, 2008  10:33 AM ET

***that is going to cost them the playoffs.

man, if only someone around here had actually said how their pitching was gonna cost them and that we shouldn't give them the AL Central Title before the games were played...

Oh, wait... :-)
