Bonds answer to Tigers' woes?

The blogosphere is loaded with commentary about what Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski ought to do, and one prevailing suggestion is hiring Barry Bonds - the talk escalated when designated hitter Gary Sheffield missed time with a torn tendon in his left ring finger. Sheffield is playing again, but he's hitting .167 (4-for-24) with no extra-base hits and one RBI on a bases-loaded walk. Dombrowski was asked about the possibility of signing Bonds, and he quickly blew it off by saying, "Our everyday lineup is set. It's not even a situation with us."

The Tigirls have turned into the joke team of MLB. Bonds would only make this team more laughable.

Maybe a new manager is the answer? But I seriously doubt Jimbo would ever get fired.

April 14, 2008  07:19 AM ET

They should bring back Barry. Say what you want about Barry, but the man can flat out hit, and steroids can't help with that. There bats need a lift and even at his age he's better than anybody in their lineup.

April 14, 2008  07:24 AM ET

yea i agree

April 14, 2008  07:33 AM ET

Wouldnt even consider it. The line up couldnt be any better, has to be something else wrong

April 14, 2008  07:42 AM ET

IF Shef was out for the year.... I could see them going after Bonds but Shef is going to be OK.

April 14, 2008  07:45 AM ET

Gary Sheffield and barry Bonds are the 2 biggest AHOLES in MLB.

April 14, 2008  07:54 AM ET

Agree with you 700Level, but Bonds and his bat may be worth it the way the Tigers are playing. But Sheff and Bonds on the same team may be a problem.

April 14, 2008  08:24 AM ET

We dont need a bonds. We need someone who can make contact other than fly balls and double plays. Its not like this lineup should need help. They need a spark. It doesnt feel like the Tigers I know and love, and wont until Granderson is back.

April 14, 2008  08:34 AM ET

Ok Bininator, is there anyone on that team that produced better numbers in 2007 than Bonds? I think he probably only played in about 90-100 games anyway and still produced. He would be a good Dh and that would be a scary lineup if the others could start hitting.

April 14, 2008  08:42 AM ET

Bonds would help. Bottom Line. He gets on base more than anyone they currently have.

April 14, 2008  08:45 AM ET

700 Level Lifer, you can say ****. And what, has Barry learned how to pitch? Because the Tigers will hit. I think. Someday. Pitching? Until D-Train comes back, they are in serious trouble >>sarcasm <<

April 14, 2008  08:48 AM ET

Nope, I guess you can't. ****

April 14, 2008  08:50 AM ET

Keelee, HollyBull,

Ummm...
Grandy had a 20-20-20 year
You had the batting title and like third runner up in Mags and Placido. (Playing only 90 games doesnt affect your average..)

I think the lineup is scary enough if others start hitting. All I am saying is Bonds isnt the spark to get the others to start hitting. He isnt that positive dugout presence. He is a distraction, and thats the last thing this team needs now.

April 14, 2008  08:50 AM ET

"Our everyday lineup is set. It's not even a situation with us."

2-10? that is a situation

April 14, 2008  08:52 AM ET

Nicely said, Wanted Man. If you all can convince me Barry worked on a nasty slider to compliment his blazing fastball during the offseason, this conversation might change, but until then, Tigers dont need to keep adding. They need a good balanced team. Leyland will get them there. I bet they sweep this two game series and start playing a little bit better to welcom Grandy back.

April 14, 2008  08:56 AM ET

The kis holding the sign....

a) is an actor planted by Barry's agent
b) comes from a pro-steriod family
c) has a father that is too scared to discuss steriods with his son
d) has a father that loves the Tigers so much, he doesnt care if Bonds juiced
