Barca considers Silva move

Barcelona is weighing up a move for David Silva in the summer as they begin the search to fill the role that is set to be vacated by Ronaldinho's transfer to Italy. The Blaugrana are wasting no time in planning their squad rebuilding programme and have pinpointed the Valencia playmaker as the best of three potential targets, ahead of Sevilla's Diego Capel and Deportivo starlet Andres Guardado.

Those three guys are great wingers but with different styles. Capel is a run-at-them type of winger, Silva can hold, run and shoot at will and Guardado is great from attacking from the midfield. I don't think Barca will go for Guardado since he'll take up a non-EU slot, Capel is really young, Silva probably has a high price-tag

Too late, Barca. I already signed him in Fifa...

Who else did I hear wants to sign Silva? Chelsea? I dunno I forget

I'd go for Silva. Doesnt Capel play the Left Winger like Dos Santos. And I believe theyre the same age too.
I agree for Guardado and the non-EU slot plus his ability to play attacking wing-back isnt necessarily needed with a solid Abidal on the left flank already.
Chaco do you have a number for Silva?

With the mess that is Valencia this summer I'm sure Silva would jump at the chance to move to Barcelona. Won't come cheap as mentioned.

Cheap plug sorry if it bugs anyone, if anyone has some time to kill check out the football site sinnacle dot com***

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO stay in Valencia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

April 15, 2008  12:39 PM ET

Silva is awesome, but it would be a big blow for Valencia, who have the aging vicente now. He would be a great fit for Barca.

I'm suprised they didnt mention jesus navas

Or Dani Aquino from Murcia. I read that both Barca and Madrid were trying to get him. Even though he'd be sitting on either bench...

April 15, 2008  01:50 PM ET

Vicente is only 26, but hes always hurt. My biggest worry is that Villa and Silva will both leave this summer. That would be a huge blow to Valencia's attack. Although when healthy and on form Jaoquin and Vicente are dangerous as anybody and Mata looks promising, but still.

I would love to see Guardado or Diego Capel at Barca. However, as they are not completely "proven" yet, and as talented as they are, I could see them lingering on the Barca bench for long streches of time (which would be a shame). Silva would be a great addition for Barca buth I think they should try to first shore up their back line a little bit. Anyone else think that the "wrap it up" music is playing for Puyol?

April 15, 2008  05:16 PM ET

Barca would rather drop the coin on Danny Alves. He is an impact player. With Xavi, Iniesta and Deco still under contract, Silva isnt necessarily a must have. I view this as a very long shot.

And Puyol has never been more secure than this year. He's got a few good years left. He is a lot more valuable to the team then Zambrotta or Tutu Thuram. A back four made up of Alves - Puyol - Marquez - Milito would be pretty solid.

April 15, 2008  06:34 PM ET

No abidal?

April 15, 2008  06:36 PM ET

I think Guardado should be given a chance to 'prove' himself at Barca. He played very well for Deportivo, and could really link up well with Dos Santos. Silva and Capel will also do, but may be a bit more expensive.

i like silva, he is a good player...they should make him better on FIFA 08 and PES though haha. he is a great crosser of the ball...

Jesus Navas is not mentioned because he suffers from this psychological problem where he can't be away from home, this is not a joke

Jeevs --- good point. Abidal is definitely still in the mix. He is a fast wingback, like Alves and still very much needed. Marquez, Puyol and Milito are interchangeable in the middle, but Abidal and Alves on the wings would be awesome. I've heard commentators say he has not made the transition to la liga, but I've seen some good stuff.

April 16, 2008  11:29 AM ET

I think they should bring in more defensive players. Another anchor maybe, Daniel Alves definitely, and I think they need a young CB to mold. Puyol will retire at Barca but hes getting old. Marquez isnt too young either.
Bring back Pique or buy Garay from Racing.

the Barca trasfer manager guy said they will never buy back someone who left Barca when the press brought up buying fabregas. so no fabreagas or pique.
