Brian Mooney, the agent for Darrell Jackson, was in town Tuesday to finalize a contract that would add still another receiver with a considerable NFL pedigree to the Broncos' roster. A deal for Jackson is expected to be finalized today.

Shanahan really needs to go. The Broncos are solid in some areas but they can't pull it all together. Shanahan is the main reason. He isn't making quality personnel moves and trading draft picks like crazy.

They are going to have a lot of quality depth at WR but stability at QB and the Offensive line needs to be dealt with too. The Defense will give up way too many points and that puts a lot of pressure on the NFL's Goofiest looking QB's. He is decent but looks like a dork. Sorry to any Broncos fan, I just need to point of the obvious.

They definetley need WR's, but not Jackson

Jackson is solid. He makes plays, period. Is he the answer, few single players are especially at WR. Shannahan is a good coach. His players go all out for him and he has mostly high character guys. They just need some more umph!!!! They had an awsome cb tandem until the tragedy. Walker gets hurt, and a young QB hurt them a little. They are contenders though and must never be slept on.

The smell of desperation in the air.

Good luck Jay Cutler, you have the second most difficult schedule in terms of team defense vs. the pass, and a world of mediocrity to help you along...

I think this is a good move. They're trying to shore up that #2/#3 wide receiver spot through Free Agency so they can use the draft to focus on the true need positions like OL and DT. Don't forget that Darrell Jackson was a #1 receiver in a similar system in Seattle for many years, but fought through injuries and shoddy QB play (Alex Smith? Trent Dilfer?) last year in San Fran.

Just wanted to drop a comment for dropping's sake...like Darrell Jackson and the football.

As a 49ers fan, I saw Jackson play quite a bit last year. He doesn't seem like much of a playmaker to me. Granted, that Niner offense was impotent for most of the year. But Jackson didn't lead in any statistical category of significance. He started 15 of the 16 games and only managed to average 3 catches per game.

I think this would be an excellent move for the Broncos. I personally can't believe that Jackson has stayed on the open market for so long.

When I saw this article I was expecting to see a lot of Shanahan haters. I was surprised to see a lot of people agreed with me so far--Jackson isn't an AWFUL player, he could be a quality #2 or #3. I don't know what America's legend is talking about with trading draft picks because we have 9 this year and haven't traded any yet (Though we don't have a 3rd rounder due to a trade last year for Marcus Thomas). I do agree Cutler is goofy looking though--but a great player.
--I agree with JNacht, the Broncos are getting depth so they can really shore up the lines this year. and maybe by 4th round (in which we have 2 picks) we can take a shot at a WR then. This wasn't a bad move

Jackson will be a good pickup should Marshall's injury be worse than they are telling us.

April 16, 2008  11:25 AM ET

they could sign Darrell, Darrell, and his other brother Darrell, and it still wouldnt help. denver needs a real wr threat

Jackson drops the ball way too much.............this guy couldn't catch a cold in minus 10 degree weather wearing wet longjohns..........

Not thrilled at all with this addition. Maybe we could find some defensive help at some point. Just an idea.

Shanahan is a good coach - he just isn't a good talent evaluator or GM. Even when Sundquist was there Shanahan still had a lot of input into player acquisition and now he has it all. Shanahan should stick to coaching and the Broncos need to get a good GM to build the roster.

let's hope this turns out like a McCaffery or Smith situation where no one wanted him and he made something happen.

I have two questions in regards to Jackson. Does he eat at McDonald's? And if he does, is he careful to make sure that the bag winds up in the garbage can?

April 16, 2008  01:17 PM ET

In September when the Raiders rook coach takes it to the old man, the Denver owner is going to realize that he should've rebuilt the team with his old GM....and of course with Mr. Ed's approval too. Poor Jake.
