Yankees first pitch from space
Forget The Rocket. A real astronaut will throw the first pitch at Wednesday night's Yankee game. NASA astronaut Dr. Garrett Reisman will throw the ceremonial pitch from the International Space Station during Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Broadcast on the stadium's JumboTron screens, it will be the first ceremonial first pitch in Yankee history thrown from space. Reisman, a lifelong Yankee fan, carried a Yankee banner, a cap autographed by George Steinbrenner and a pile of dirt from the Yankee Stadium pitcher's mound with him onboard the International Space Station on March 12.

And what was wrong with Kennedy's performance the other day, Bob?
And these are words from a true fan: (smile) "From Earth's orbit," he said, "but still deep inside the Yankees universe, let me say, Go Yanks!"
Truly, Yankee baseball is out of this world. This is proof positive.

Who is going to catch it when it lands?
Won't the ball burn up on re-entry?
He must have a hell of an arm to hit homeplate from space, sign him up.
I have to truly respect the persistence of any anti-Yankite that can find fault with this story. You show perceverance ans consistency.
This is in preperation for 2050 opening day on the moon.

I hope that ball doesn't burn up upon re-entry.

This is as good a thread as any to divert. A little Red Sox-Yankees matchup talk in here? What do you say? It is either here or some other useless thread.

An Astronaut now part of the Yankee universe, our direction still points to balance...at playing .650 ball by year's end...

hmmmm.. Bucholz against Wang tonight? Yanks need to send Bucholz to the showers early and Wang needs to keep the pitches sinking and the worm burners active. Looking for a busy night from the Yankee infielders. Hmmm, can Jeter stub his toe so Gonzalez can play at short tonight?

Wang pitched so great last Friday. You think he can even come close to that? I'm not looking for a CG again, just 7 innings and say 2-3 runs.

Tony .650 would be wonderful but I will take .600. 97 wins is enough, I think, for a playoff berth. Besides when the Red Sawx play at .560 it won't matter because then we will take first in a walk. (LOL)

Allstarz, they are going to have to get the offense moving more, and later innings have to be made up- without jaba, going to be a tough series. How much longer is girardi going to wait on giambi, and why can't he go the other way once in a while for god's sake. He's killing them at .090 BA. But his play at first has been very good, and cano play at second also very good, but they need to hit. Not to mention Johnny has to heat up. Theyare at 8 and 7, not bad considering the low start by some of the players. Cold weather is no excuse, but has been a factor, not to mention the longest run on the road with no time off in between, but no excuses, they shoudl start to step it up, but it's only april...

Right 4192, .600 is just as good. They gots to win series throughout the year, 2 of each 3 is what? .666 ball, oh no, that's the sign of the devil, I guess that's where the Rays "devil" went to, we'll take it. go Yankees....

What is with these 2 game series? Bad schedule making by Selig and his cronies but hey what can ya do? I'm surprised FN doesn't have up a more divisive post to try to get Yankee and Sox fans all riled up against each other. I guess that is what the Schilling one is for... too bad no one cares. So that said I feel pretty good about our chances tonight with Wang on the mound.

Less Yank/Sox games in April and more in Aug. Sept. that should be the rule going forward.

Joba is out for the series, this is a downgrade. Farnsworth pitched a good inning last night, the first one I have seen from him in a while. It was against the Rays though, so, not real excited yet. Karstens, and Sanchez are on the mend and we should see either or both in the coming weeks. Hopefully they can bolster the staff a little.
The hitting does need to pick up. Hopefully the increased hitting against the Rays can continue. Matsui is off to a good start, A-Rod is pretty consistent and Jeter came of the DL on fire. Damon and Cano need to step it up, Giambi, that deadwood better get it going.
Bucholtz looked good the last time we played him, i can see why Boston is so big on this kid, great hook. He definately is a rook though, at times he had trouble finding the plate, or was trying to be too fine, it hurt him.
And fianally, yes, Wang can do it again, he had two straight outings where he was able to truly mix up his pitches and the results spoke for themselves.
The Catcher injuries on the Yankees might be a deciding factor in this series, Especially with young Hughes pitching the second game.
