Eagles pump up Sheppard's value

Eagles president Joe Banner pumped up the trade value of Lito Sheppard Tuesday, leaving the departure of the veteran cornerback a foregone conclusion. Sheppard's availability has gotten "a lot" of attention from other NFL teams, according to Banner, who, like a used car salesman, put his best spin on the sporty model that lately has been leaking oil. Teammates were aware that Sheppard was unhappy with his contract long before the team signed marquee free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel away from the Patriots.

He is a solid CB who can contribute right away. Whoever lands Lito will be lucky

April 16, 2008  08:29 AM ET

I still think the Eagles wayyyy overpaid for Samuel.
But I also think he's probably the best corner in the NFC right now

April 16, 2008  08:42 AM ET

My only concern is that Asante is not a man-to-man cb. He'll need to man-up a lot more than he's used to... especially against Dallas and T.O.

April 16, 2008  08:44 AM ET

So now Joe Banner is a Used Car Salesman? And Lito Sheppard is a used sport car that leaks oil?

WTF?

Everyone knows when you talk about a white man, putting up a black man on the open market for sale...you use horse analogies...not a car analogy....you use terms like "Thoroughbred", "Great Stock", "Solid Breeding" and "Lame Leg".

Cripes, where did the Deleware County Times dig up this reporter?

You all know who we can blame for this don't you?

NASCAR.........thats right I said it...we all know its a conspiracy to replace all classic American soliloquies and racially undertone statements, with automobile related soliloquies and auto based analogies.

THere is no more lock down corners...the rules got rid of those players...if you touch the WR to hard you get a flag.....Asante may not be a man to man CB but who can stay with WRs these days ....without touching them first....you see what happen to Harris during the pro bowl....well thats where its going

It's the first 5 yards that I'm concerned with. Is Asante physical enough to jam his man at the line to get his timing off on the route? I'm not discounting his skill and amazing foresight as an elite cb. My concern is his physicality up front.

Then again... Lito is the same type of player.

I disagree - think T. Newman is much better.

League has been progressively changing the rules to tip the balance of power toward offenses.

Unfortunately, your average football watcher isn't sophisticated enough to appreciate a game with great defense, and that is low scoring.

Evidentially, touchdowns and the subsequent "Touchdown Dance" is an attention grabber and the NFL wants to ensure there are plenty of TD's.

You all know who we can blame for this dont you?

NASCAR....because everyone watches for the crashes...which is = to 1 NFL touchdown...so.......yet another NASCAR conspiracy brought to light.

The Bills should Swap 1st round picks with the Eagles for CB Lito Sheppard. This would mean that the Bills get a Pro Bowl Starting Caliber CB right away and would be able to nab one of the better WR's in the draft.

April 16, 2008  09:05 AM ET

Or Swap 2nd round picks if the Eagles don't want to spend first round pick money.

April 16, 2008  09:08 AM ET

The Eagles need a veteran star WR so they can use him NOW. Bringing in a rookie WR from the draft won't help this at all this season.

My Eagles know their window for a SB is shrinking with every year that McNabb and Westbrook get older.

We are perennial playoff contenders, but the difference between that and a Superbowl team is getting wider and wider in this league with each passing year, and with each solid QB that is retired.

April 16, 2008  09:10 AM ET

Please swap 1st round picks with new orleans and come play in the big easy Lito

April 16, 2008  09:13 AM ET

Finally Andy Reid realizes that he needs a Vet Stud at WR..........BUT no one will trade their Star WR's. They have to hope that they can get a Dwayne Bowe out of this draft. Insert WR Devin Thomas of MSU.

April 16, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Lito Sheppard will be traded no later than draft weekend, to a cornerback needy team (Bengals, Saints, etc...) with draft pickS and in return the Eagles will keep their number 19 pick & get whichever other teams first rounder. The Eagles won't trade for Roy Williams with his contract about to be up, and we won't get Ocho Cinco either, the coaching staff won't take that chance. Fitz and Boldin are out of the picture, who's really left? One possibility that got little mention, and could definitely happen is Torry Holt...

Please God! Just 1 season with Asante, Lito, and Sheldon. Just ONE!!!

How sweet would that be?! It'll never happen though. Reid loves draft picks. That is why Lito is gone. We'll trade him for apick and get a tackle to replace john r or William "don't call me Tra" Thomas

April 16, 2008  09:58 AM ET

As a Giants fan, all I hope for is Lito to be traded out of the NFC East. Well, that and seeing Winston Justice protecting Mcnabb's blind side for 4 more years.

April 16, 2008  10:41 AM ET

Agreed, get Sheppard out of the NFC East. The Best Division In Football, NFC East!!

April 16, 2008  11:04 AM ET

Winston was just in because of an injury, now that the line is healthy.Watch out,and for crying out loud.Hurry trade lito.Hell im a packers fan.

Trade him to the cowgirls for one of their picks. And stop expecting a first. You will get no better then a 2nd for an aging injury prone CB.But a 2nd is still good.

April 16, 2008  11:22 AM ET

I like Lito but it is a risk to trade for him. First he is unhappy with his current deal. Also the Eagles' defense has been historically better than most in the league the past few seasons so it is hard to say how good he really is.
