Davis denies rift with Nellie

The last thing Golden State needs heading into its busy offseason is a rift between its franchise coach and player. And according to Don Nelson and Baron Davis, that's the last thing the Warriors have. Davis, in his first public comments since being benched by Nelson for the second half of Monday's game in Phoenix, finally joined Nelson in brushing off the possibility of any lasting discord. "Not at all," Davis said after the Warriors' season-ending loss to Seattle in which he started and played 39 minutes, scoring 21 points with seven assists and six rebounds. "We talked about it at shoot-around, before I even got to shoot-around, just laughing and joking. You're playing for Nellie, and you got to know what comes with it. And I'm fine; I'm fine in every aspect. I was upset that night. But you know, we got to do what's best for the team.."

Davis is one of the best PGs in the league. Hopefully, it's a learning experience and it takes his game to the next level.

Davis needs to get fresh with a razor....there are rumblings in the Amish community about claiming him

I hope he and Nellie both stay. This team is one quality "big" away from a letigimate contender.

It is too bad GSW is in the West, this 9th best team would embarrass many of the East teams.

I was shocked when I realized from that photo, he didn't have any tatoos on his arms. I thought all NBA players were covered in tatoos.

I heard Mark Cuban had a victory cigar when he realized that GS didn't make it in this year.

As a cynic, i find it hard to believe there isn't an issue lurking deeper here. But as someone who lives in the Bay Area, and has had the opportunity to watch all of the games, the evidence seems clear - all season, the philosophy has been to shoot shoot shoot, and definitely to a fault. I say to a fault, because Nellie rarely gives his starters the hook when they're cold (I believe GSW really lost the playoff spot when they lost to LA a few weeks back, and I focus on Baron's stupid alley-oop attempt as the reason - but Nellie stuck with him regardless). And then all of a sudden, in the 2nd to last game of the year, and the first MUST WIN game, Nellie does something he hasn't done all season, and does it to arguably his best player (close second - Stack Jack). Prediction: Both Nellie and BD are gone before the start of next year ... .

Da Spurs made a mistake of winning that game. They would rather face the Suns instead of da Rockets. They might regret it in the future. Da Rockets is an easier out before going to the next round.

Yeah its done you can never comeback from a fallout on this level. He disrespected Baron Davis period!! To all you Nellie defenders its a reason he hasnt won a championship because of EGO. Its the Bob Knight sydrome. All these coaches want to be bigger then the team: Pat Riley, Nellie, Mike Dunleavy, Greg Popovich, George Karl, Scott Skiles, Phil Jackson, and the Van Gundys. Barron Davis has played his butt off and been healthy and on the court all year and then Nellie goes and pulls this stunt!!! Shame on Nellie he's a piece of garbage!!!

Davis is going to want to get additional years on his contract, and the W's shouldn't do it. Nellie is, well the same as he's always been. A quick solution that broke the 13 year playoff drought - but neither will get the W's over the hump. The style of play they had this year ----- they were just destined to become the best team to ever not make the playoffs.

you got to take popovich out of that equauition of ego driven coaches

Baron Davis (BD) and Nellie may have had a spat, but the simple fact is that each of them helped resurrect the other's career over the past couple years.
Nellie often does strange things with his rotation, kind of like a mad scientist, and that's why BD said "you know what comes with it [playing for Nellie]."
A couple other comments...
Hollywd - you are correct, but the Warriors are actually 2 big men away from legitimacy. One more big man is simply not enough in the tough Western conference.
The-Truth - Baron Davis is a Wise Man, and the beard makes that distinction. You must not forget that Mr.Davis is a Professor and Scholar who happens to play basketball to make a quick few millions of bucks, before retiring back to his studies of literature and film.

Davis was 2 of 13. He deserved the benching. The rest of the Warriors got back in the game without him. Don't blame the coach. Nelson has a big ego, yes, but he has earned it more than Davis. Davis isn't the only reason the Warriors are better. And they will drop off without Nelson more than without Davis. Davis has been great, and played a ton, but the coach has to run the show. I think the Warriors did as well as could be expected this year, and they over achieved last year. We'll see about next year.

Come to think of it, I really missed Jason Richardson. The problem with the Warriors is they have lots of players playing the same position. They need a legitimate 4 (Power Forward) and they are set to go. There's always a next year. Go WARRIORS111
