Trojans face tailback decisions

USC's logjam of 2007 loosened some with the departure of three seniors, but there are still six tailbacks competing for playing time and all have looked sharp at times this spring. Allen Bradford's daily highlight-reel plays appear to have put him firmly in the fall mix with fellow junior Stafon Johnson, sophomores Joe McKnight and C.J. Gable and redshirt freshmen Broderick Green and Marc Tyler. USC started training camp with a jaw-dropping 10 tailbacks on the roster, but the number was a bit of an illusion.

Should've went to another school....ride that pine!

April 17, 2008  07:41 AM ET

If McKnight gets his act together in the classroom and can hold onto the ball, he'll be one of the nation's best backs in 2008. Two big ifs however...

You should have followed your heart and played at LSU to win national championships, instead of taking the big payday to go to FUSC.

April 17, 2008  11:34 AM ET

it's the most prestigous school in the nation for showcasing great running backs -- stand in line and take your turn -- if you've got the goods, you'll quickly stand out and be the one

Who'd wanna stay in Louisiana?

April 17, 2008  12:08 PM ET

Tailback U!!! Enough said although I might add that Stafon is the best of the bunch.

"Who'd wanna stay in Louisiana?"

Let's see hurricanes vs. earthquakes, Humidity vs. Sunny and 70, Disney vs. Mardi Gras, Rap vs. Blues, beaches vs. swamps ............National Championship vs. another Rose Bowl win.....man, you almost had me!

I do wish we had some televised high speed pursuits down here. Ha!

April 17, 2008  12:28 PM ET

Yeah your right USC 11 National Championships in football don't compare to LSU's 2.

...Humidity vs. year-round sunny & 70, Disney, Universal, Six Flags, Playboy Jazz Fest, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, South-Central L.A., Watts, countless Museums, etc...vs. Mardi Gras, R & B, Reggae, Rap, Salsa vs. Jazz & Blues, A tradition of college football vs. Johnny Come-Lately to the Nat'l 'ship scene. And you had the nerve to bring up crime!???

April 17, 2008  12:34 PM ET

They need McKnight, so they'd better get him to classes.

April 17, 2008  12:39 PM ET

McKnight should move to the slot, he's too fragile. He's smaller than Reggie Bush and we see that he can't take the pounding in the NFL. When Joe goes to the next level he could be the next Steve Smith (Carolina).

April 17, 2008  12:48 PM ET

Stafon Johnson is the man, IMO

LSUDyn - Do you even know where FUSC came from?

I love the nearly daily USC posts! I have no doubt the RB situation will work itself out, we will be counting on those guys to give Sanchez some time.

Trojans - 2009 College Admissions Acceptance Rates: USC 21.0% , ucla 22.7%. FIGHT ON!

"Yeah your right USC 11 National Championships in football don't compare to LSU's 2."

Well unless McKnight is like 75 years old, I don't think your 11 Championships arguement holds water.

April 17, 2008  01:34 PM ET

Hey don't short change us on championships, we had one in the 50's too! Ha!

April 17, 2008  01:38 PM ET

You USC's love living in the past.
11 national champs to our 3 first of all you shmuck. You guys have ONE the last 10 years, we have 2. Keep the ESPN hype that USC has "the best team every year" because thats the only thing ya'll win. Keep the Rose Bowl, we'll keep taking home the crystal footballs.

FUSC came from, I believe, the USC-UCLA rivalry. You want a cookie because someone thought of **** USC?

April 17, 2008  01:52 PM ET

LSUDYNASTY,

The stage was set last year for LSU and USC to settle this 5 yr. old debate. We upheld our side of the bargain.......but I forgot, USC, OU, UGA,...were cheated out of their chance at the big game because they had 2 losses too.....Blah, Blah, Blah............don't worry, they'll be ranked #1 next year and the year after that, and so on........at least until the play OSU in September. I think they have a contract with the sports writers like ND has with the bowl system. It's something like...."ok USC, you keep playing in that weak conference and winning against those left coast greenies and we'll rank you number one again.

April 17, 2008  02:21 PM ET

We'll see how much of a dynasty LSU is when they finish 8-4 this year... Meike Car Care Bowl here we come...

April 17, 2008  02:25 PM ET

Great!

Then we can finally play USC there.......................................
