Riley to make decision next week
Heat coach Pat Riley again declined Wednesday to discuss whether he would remain in the position next season. Riley said he would meet with owner Micky Arison, likely early next week, and then make an announcement. "I don't think I want to go there right now," Riley said. "I really want to do what's in the best interest of the Heat."

"I really want to do what's in the best interest of the Heat."
If Riley was interested in the best interests of the Heat, he'd get as far away from them as possible. He and Isiah should take the money they've stolen and open a concession stand-in Boise.

Coach Riley (and it hurts to call you a coach) Mr. self centered. Let me help you go, leave, you don't add anything. Your style has played out. You are to short sited. You did it in NY quick fix and then left them with old players which is some of the reason for their current situation.
Repeat your act in Miami. Although, you (D-Wade) was lucky enough to win a ring.

I don't think the Heat are as doomed as people think. The team won a championship 2 years ago and now they will have Wade, a top 4 draft pick, and Marion who will likely be signed as a discount (he better get a no trade clause). They are in full rebuilding mode and they will be fine.

Wow-The Venon towards Riley is bizzare
He did just bring a chanpionship to Miami, didn't he?
And you have Dwade & a top 2 pick coming in......
So you tanked 1 season for your futre - what's wrong with that?
The spurs did it & got Duncan- that worked out pretty good over their next decade, didn't it.
I mean if you haven't won in 3 decades (knicks) or never (clippers/hawks) then you could be whining.

jgb not venon just my opinion,
I never thought much of Riley as a coach. He won in LA with the best talent. Trust me talent wins!! Riley when to NY and never got over the hump. He when to Miami and took away a good team from Van Gundy, added Shaq and got luck.
Yeap, I said lucky because D-Wade played above his head in that series. BTW: I think D-Wade has peaked. Mike Beasley is the best choice for them. Riley may find away to screw that up.

No decision for Riley: It's just called QUIT. Hire Jeff Van Gundy as your replacement or something and move on.

Thanks Riley for that magical year in 2006 but other then that, hit the road buddy. Your Ego is what stands in the way of your being a great coach in this era. J Posey was a key guy, J Kapono was a key guy. but your ego Riley wouldnt let you walk into the owners office and tell him You needed them guys. You and the owner are playing the same ol' "Lets win a championship and then get real cheap" You guys are cost-cutting and you know it! How did it feel Riley to watch that god-awful team night after night huh??Posey signed 7million dollars, Kapono 24mil!! That wasnt even a lot of money.Posey is a defensive beast, while Kapono kept defenses honest for Shaq and Wade. Ket errors stop being a puppet Riley and Win another championship for your legacy!!

Name one player Riley has developed? He didn't build that Laker team. He was given the Showtime Lakers after an NBA Championship season. Couldn't get it done in New York, and assumed Van Gundy's team in Miami. His "success" has simply been the result of the opportunities he's had. Call it what you like--he has completely decimated this team with poor personnel decisions they will be years digging out of. It is truly a toss-up between Riley and Isiah as to which is worse. Neither of them should ever be admitted in a front office again.

And you think the heat will get their dominant player and directly start playing better?
The Magic had Shaq in 93
The Spurs had Duncan in 98
The Magic had Howard in 06
Those are the last really dominant post-up dominant players to come the last couple of years.
By the way, it's a team sport. It's good to have a very talented player, but the tricky part is to surround him with a good supporting cast.
If you get a couple of D-leagers as a supporting cast, you won't get far won't you.
The Spurs won the last couple of years because they have good players surrounding Duncan.

You guys are correct about Riley's ego. That is why he will insist on staying in Miami in some capacity. He will probably go back upstairs to his GM office and hire another coach. After all, there are still some good coaches out there available for a job - Jeff Van Gundy, Calipari, and others.
However, in support of Riley - he has always worked hard as a coach. True enough, he has let his ego get in the way sometimes, and after a few years, his intensity has turned off certain players, but he makes sure that his players practice hard and play hard. That's an important difference between him and Isiah Thomas and others.

two years removed and everyone wants to throw him under a bus. It didnt help that last year wade was injured, shaq's lazy behind didnt want to play hard "until the playoffs" (what did he do during the playoffs, nothing)
Then this year, wade out, shaq is a baby because hes not surrounded by talent, instead of embracing what he needed to do he whined and whined and was "injured" gets traded to pheonix and he is a teenager diving over chairs.
Its not all on riley. Those players made the team what it is now. Not his coaching.
