Chris Carpenter threw a 60-pitch session in the Cardinals' bullpen Tuesday afternoon, moving another step closer to pitching batting practice for the first time since undergoing ligament transplant surgery last July 24.

I saw "Carpenter closer to return" and I thought this was going to be a story about the second coming of Christ. My bad

Ain't it great?

April 17, 2008  09:05 AM ET

okay, someone 'splain to me how this story... please, read the linked story...applies to Chris Carpenter. I have now read it three times and I see the following players in the story: Albert Pujols, Matt Clement, Brendan Ryan and Russ Springer. Not one cotton picking word about Chris Carpenter. Unless I am blind in one eye and can't see outta the other.

How is this guy back throwing 60 pitches 9 months after tommy john?

April 17, 2008  09:30 AM ET

Is that a beer in LaRussa's hand?

Here's a better link on Carpenter. I'm personally going to be very surprised if he can be effective in August and September.

Carpenter is as tough and determined as they come.

April 17, 2008  10:27 AM ET

If they can stay in the race and get anything close to the real Chris Carpenter in September.....the Cards will be sitting pretty

April 17, 2008  10:33 AM ET

As i recall pitchers returning from Tommy John Surgery have their ups and down with control for about 6-9 months once they come back.

April 17, 2008  11:07 AM ET

it wont matter, they're a flash-in-the-pan. Cards will be out of it by the All-Star Break. It's a 2-team division.

2 teams... Brewers and Cards.

When will LaRussa get another DUI?

Let us not forget the Cubs!.....Brewers and Cards?

Yep, that post says Brewers and CARDS. Now take a wild guess at what state the poster resides. I'll give you a hint... it rhymes with Rossouri

I had a fantastic night at the park last night - unlike the already-crowned Brewers.
Take your time, Carp!

4192jc... you're right, man. NO mention of Carpenter. Although, he already rose from the grave back in March (homage to METS4LIFE's brilliant comment).

Even still, I did hear that Carpenter threw a bullpen session. He's still not slated to come off the DL until mid-July at the earliest, so this headline is extremely misleading. It's like saying that Paris Hilton is closer to becoming a nun when she goes a night sleeping with only one person.

Yeah, Cubbies fans... the CARDS. Glad you can read. Remember, ITS YOUR CENTURY!
