Tyrone Appleton watched from Midland (Texas) College this year as the Jayhawks won a national championship with an unselfish philosophy. Appleton, ranked the No. 3 junior-college prospect in the country by Rivals.com, signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday to join KU's six-man 2008 recruiting haul. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Appleton put together a stat line that would fit in well with the Jayhawks, averaging 13.2 points, 5.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game. KU, particularly if guards Brandon Rush and Mario Chalmers both go pro, will expect Appleton to play right away as a junior.
