Latest NFL stadium plan for LA

Convinced he can succeed where so many before him have failed, billionaire developer Ed Roski today will unveil plans for a proposed NFL stadium in the City of Industry, aimed at luring the league back to the Los Angeles area. NFL executives have already visited the site, which is near the intersection of the 57 and 60 freeways, and have had several conversations with Roski. Roski's proposal is different from most because he controls the land necessary to build the stadium, training facilities and related development; and he already has a certified environmental impact report for the site. The proposal suffered a setback Wednesday when state lawmakers blocked an effort by the City of Industry to divert $820 million in property tax revenue to use it for development subsidies. Roski said that if an NFL team is willing to relocate, construction on the stadium can begin this fall and be finished in time for the 2011 season. He added the team could begin playing in Los Angeles by the 2009 season, and conceivably use the Coliseum or Rose Bowl as a temporary home in the interim.

Wow... That sounds like it's gonna happen

April 17, 2008  06:52 AM ET

Shouldn't have let the teams go in the first place.

April 17, 2008  07:03 AM ET

The Rams could finally go back to Los Angeles. That's a good thing.

There is supposed to be a major announcement today. Hold on to your bar stool gents

At a time when the state and city have money problems and are laying off teachers and other workers by the thousands, they want to take tax payer money and do this?
What city would have its team pick up and leave them ? L.A. had its chance and let it go. It is wrong for the NFL to let some team relocate, and there is not enough talent to fill a 32 team league now ( just look at the QB situation ) and a work stoppage is imminent in two years. No No and No!

Anyone who thinks this is a good idea, tell me what city and fan base deserves to lose their team so it can relocate to LA.

Well, since you put it that way...........Saint Louis Rams.
Now that the evil empress is dead the family can move the team back where it belongs. imho.

This has no affect on me so I dont care

Arizona should move. Most everyone in AZ are Cowboys fans anyhow. Of course, as always, no one would support the Cards after the move and as with the previous teams who were located there, they too would end up leaving. So on second thought, your right, no one deserves to move there.

Like I said, LA doesn't deserve another team. They had theirs once and they simply let them go.

April 17, 2008  08:32 AM ET

The only way it might work in LA is if no team was located there and the NFL forced different teams to play one game every year and half or so. Then no team gets screwed and every team who plays there knows they get to leave in a few short hours.

Hooah!05 - The '70s Rocked!!

Agreed - LA is not a NFL football town - at least they have USC & UCLA.

April 17, 2008  08:45 AM ET

That's the only football they care about.

I highly doubt anyone who was an administrator in LA when the Raiders left is still working there. How is anyone in LA now responsible for what happened 14 years ago? You can't just say the whole city should continue to be penalized for the failings of officials who aren't even still in office.

April 17, 2008  09:14 AM ET

Also, no offense to Buffalo fans, but it's common knowledge that the Bills are the most ready to pack up for another town. That would be one heck of a road trip.

WOW ! That photo ROCKS ! So fitting for the Raiders !
Looks like the forces of evil are descending on the colliseum !
Love that photo.....

Los Angeles took the Lakers from Minnesota, don't let football be the second team

April 17, 2008  10:25 AM ET

sfpfc,

You know, that rumor has been going around for a few years now based on stadium issues. The tax payers of Minnesota are paying for new stadiums for the University of Minnesota and the Twinkies. Don't expect them to cough up money for the Vikings too.

I too am apathetic to the plight of LA. All people think of when they see it is a large market, that ALREADY LET A TEAM WALK.

I also agree with the sentiment that there is no fan base that deserves having theirs pulled. As a Browns fan, I'm quite sensitive to that issue. Hope wherever Modell is now, its nice and warm, with lots of brimstone, and some guys in red pajamas and pitch forks, and a lake of burning excrement.
