Cowboys, Barber far apart on contract
Marion Barber made it to the Pro Bowl last season without starting a regular-season game. Now, he's looking for a big payday. The Cowboys have held preliminary talks with the running back's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, according to multiple sources, and are offering a financial package in the $30 million range. Barber wants a package between $40 million and $60 million. Rosenhaus has a good working relationship with the Cowboys, and it is unlikely that a deal won't get done. But Rosenhaus' request that Barber receive a contract similar to some of the top running backs in the game caught the Cowboys somewhat by surprise, the sources said.

We're surprised that Drew Rosenhaus asked for something his client doesn't deserve? C'mon, kids...

At least Barber played more games than Pacman did last year. Doesn't he deserve a better paycheck?

Drew Rosenhaus is a Cancer to the sport of Football. Marion deserves a bigger paycheck but not one that puts financial stress on the Cowboys salary cap. The Cowboys organization has always been fair about paying quality players.

YAY FOR BARBER! Actually they are not far apart at all. They are about to offer the same deal as Michael Turner got 6yrs/34 Mil or The Willis McGahee deal of 7yrs/40 Million. Now we are not going to waste a 1st round pick on a RB........in the Deepest Class of RB's EVER!

Fair market value has to be between 5 and 7 million a year. The question is how much in bonus up front and how much guaranteed. It should not have come as a big surprise to their front office, they had to know he would want mor money.

Barber is not one of the top RB's in the league. He shouldn't be asking for more $

This is easy. Let him play the first half of the season for his 2.56 million or whatever, see where he is among the elite RB's, and if he up there, pay him!

Because he shared the role before, maybe not. But he still put up great numbers in that role and he is one of the most exciting RBs in the NFL and one of the most punishing. Does he deserve huge monies right now? Probably not. Let's see what he does in the starring role this year. Remember what he did to the Giants in the first half of the playoff game? Proper conditioning and the lone RB position and maybe the Giants don't go any further. Speculation? Yes. He's just as good or maybe even better than Westbrook.

Good point. Just like Jerry did with Romo. And Romo proved he's worth all the money he gets.

woo there fella. "He's just as good or maybe even better than Westbrook"
Not even close. You said it yourself. He shared the backfield role, meaning he is untested. Westbrook has been putting up huge numbers for the last couple seasons. You could argue his case for MVP the last 2 seasons. West brook is the best back in the league. LT is a close 2nd

Westbrook is not the best back in the league. Westbrook is very good. I like his running style. OK, let's rephrase it, he will be as good and, most likely, better, than Westbrook. He made the Pro Bowl last year with limited play.

This is the same thing that everyone said about Romo. Anyone who actually understands the game, knows that MBIII is a True RB.
How many runningbacks break a 40 yd TD run every game? How many bust 60 or 80yds per game? All you need is a back that can get you 4 yards per carry and keep the running game going all day. That's what this guy does. Not to mention he has great hands and one of the better blockers in the game. He always finds ways to get more yards after contact. This guy is a beast and he deserves the same contract as Michael Turner. He has done way more than Turner. I think both of them are great, but my Boy MBIII is the man.

What happened to Reggie Bush? He was supposed to kill in the open field. He can't even make it to the second level in the NFL. They have to use him on screens and 5yd outs all the time. He can't run in between the Guards and tackles.
Barber can do everything. You don't need electrifying speed at RB. You need patience, vision, balance, acceleration, blocking, catching, and power. MBIII has all of that.
