Tejada reveals he lied about age

Saying he wanted to unburden himself, Miguel Tejada approached general manager Ed Wade and asked to correct misinformation he gave the Oakland A's when he signed in 1993. The Astros' new shortstop is actually 33, two years older than he's listed in the club's media guide and other baseball records. Tejada was actually 19 when he signed as a kid out of poverty-stricken Bani, Dominican Republic. At the time, he says, a local coach encouraged him to say he was 17. "I'm a poor kid that wanted to sign," he said. "I'm feeling free now," he said. "It's something that I had in my mind."

Wow ishe like a liar like most every third person on this earth. Geez I thought he was a real cute young man in his early 20's. Is everybodt offended because he may have done steroids along with the rest of the players in MLB and all the other professional sports? I bet you he is glad he is not playing for Baltimore anymore.

yeah, whatever.... Geopgraphy was never my strong suit either. :))))

Lets see, so that means he played as a 14 year old against 12 year olds in the little league? Man that's worse than steroid use. Just how long has he been cheating? But seriously, he's a good ball player, why does he think he needs an edge?

April 18, 2008  09:00 AM ET

that could make the astros mad they thought they were getting a younger player

This guy is so full of it. The only reason he wanted to "unburden" himself is because the news was already out. He stormed out of an interview in which he was presented with a copy of his birth certificate from the DR...THEN he decided to "clear his conscience." Still waiting for the HGH admission...

April 18, 2008  09:28 AM ET

It was funny how he just stopped and walked out of the interview after being caught in that lie. Two years what's the big deal but this guy seems to have been lying his way to the top.

April 18, 2008  09:28 AM ET

Age plays a HUGE role when teams make a decision to sign or trade a player. His lying about his age should constitute fraud and his contract should be torn up.

April 18, 2008  09:30 AM ET

Sure! Now he comes out with his real age. It is all about incentives. This way, he is now closer to grabbing some of that much needed Social Security money...And don't forget closer to applying for AARP. Good thinking Miggy!

Tejada sailed to these shores aboard a Cleveland Steamer.
