Jared Allen could soon be getting his wish. The Vikings and Buccaneers have expressed an interest in acquiring the disgruntled Chiefs' Pro Bowl defensive end, a source said. Allen, who led the NFL in sacks last season, has wanted out of Kansas City since negotiations for a long-term contract broke down last year. Allen could be in Minnesota visiting with the Vikings as soon as Friday, the source said. A visit to Tampa could follow.

This would be interesting in Tampa Bay...
But again, Allen says he wants a "long term contract".
Why? so in 2 years he can demand to be traded?
Take a 1 yr deal with New England.. we'll see how much youre worth next season

Kansas City would be stupid not to pay one of the best Defensive ends in the NFL. Pay the man. The Chiefs messed up when they re-signed Larry Johnson instead of Jared Allen.

The Vikings have already tried to send their 1st and 3rd round pick. The Chiefs want a 1st and 2nd. Something will get done. This guy is special. Unless he starts to drink and drive again.

Tampa Bay has more than enough cash to get this deal done.

Kansas City has no clue do they? They would create more holes if they sent him away. They need LT, C, RG, and RT.....RE Maybe, DT, CB.

Why would they trade one for more holes? Granted, they would receive a 1st and 2nd round pick, but who knows if these guys will even pan out. You have one of the Best DE's in the NFL...and he is YOUNG!

April 18, 2008  07:19 AM ET

I'd LOVE to see him in Minnesota for the right price. DE is the most pressing need defensively and he'd fill a huge gap.

Carl Peterson seems to always find ways to change a mistake into a colossal one. The sooner the Chiefs turn over football operations to someone who knows what he is doing the better. As of now, they seem to be an organization in disarray. Allen is the foundation around which you should build your defense. Instead, the Chiefs would opt to get rid of him and draft someone untested and unproven.

Hoffa,
They would make the playoffs if they had Allen.

April 18, 2008  07:40 AM ET

You all are assuming that the Chiefs would actually give him up. That's a big assumption. Like when the Fitzgerald rumors were flying earlier. How'd that work out? Exactly.

Having said that, I bet the Eagles take a shot at him too. They were very interested in him before he was franchised.

typical Carl Peterson stubborness/arrogance costing the Chiefs.

April 18, 2008  07:48 AM ET

KC has a team, or had a team?

April 18, 2008  08:00 AM ET

Vikings have the inside track because KC wants draft picks, and we better give them a first nd a third or whatever it was, I don't care. If you can plug the sack leader in with the Williams we will have a top 2 defense next year. THen we can do whatever we want in the draft.

April 18, 2008  08:25 AM ET

I agree, AL. But I also think that Minnesota is on the cusp of the playoffs anyway (well, they actually proved that last season). Everybody points to their pass defense as a problem, but if they can get pressure up front, that will vastly improve the pass defense, where the DBs were routinely in coverage for far too long.

They have put the Franchise tag on him, but a first and a second round pick is what Carl Peterson is asking for directly,

April 18, 2008  08:45 AM ET

think they'd take a 1st and a 3rd?.....lol
we dont have a 2nd rd pick

"The Chiefs messed up when they re-signed Larry Johnson instead of Jared Allen."

Agreed.

"Everybody points to their pass defense as a problem"

I think their pass offense is the real problem.

April 18, 2008  09:11 AM ET

The Vikings are a baaaaaaaad organization. Tampa would be his best choice.

what pass offense?

April 18, 2008  09:58 AM ET

The Vikings have had a string of pretty bad luck. Defensive ends that either get hurt, ill or just don't live up to expectations. The Vikings haven't been able to provide consistent pressure against the opposing QB for years. When you look at a lot of the tough games they've lost, for the most part it's been because the opposing QB's have simply been able to sit in the pocket and pick them apart. Getting Allen and a good receiver later in the draft to go with Berrian, Allison and Sidney Rice will instantly give the Vikings a top 10 defense and vertical threats on the offensive side of the ball. People might just start to view the Vikings as a serious playoff contentder.

This could throw allot of wrinkles into the draft, assuming KC would take a different player than Minnesota.

An offensive line is one position I HAVEN'T seen the Vikes taking at 17 in any mock drafts, and it looks like there's a decent chance KC would go in that direction if they chose to not use it to find a replacement for Allen with the 17th pick.

As a Steelers fan, I'm particularly interested in this, as I think the Steelers go either O or D line at 23 (if they don't trade down). This trade could either cause a player to fall to the Steelers that otherwise Minny would have taken, or it could take a guy off the board that would have previously been around at 23.
