One league source says Brian Urlacher's agents have asked the team if they could explore a trade. Another says Urlacher is threatening to retire because of neck and back problems, a move in which he wouldn't have to repay any portion of the $13 million signing bonus he received in 2003, when he received a nine-year, $56.65 million deal.

Oh My Gosh. Why is he giving Chicago a hard time? 5 mill is some very good scratch. Just take it and be happy you dont have to move.

Great trade this unhuman contract breaking dumb jock. Great I hope Dikta loves him and puts on a dress also. Just another freaking athlete who thinks they are bigger than the players who are just....hanging on to a dream.

I don't get how some players demand these long term contracts and then decide "eh? dont think I wanna play for you anymore".
I remember when Urlacher signed. He wanted a long term deal so he could retire in Chicago didnt he?

Well at least hes not going about it the same way Chad is

Hummm...Ocho Cinco anyone?

April 18, 2008  07:03 AM ET

He signed it, now play out the contract.

To Team Hilton

April 18, 2008  07:16 AM ET

So let me get this right. He thinks he's healthy enough to play for another team, but not enough to play for Chicago? I would think if he made such statements, that if he were to retire, Chicago could get part part of the bonus because he said he's healthy enough to play for another team.

Request a trade, then say you might retire? what team would trade for him now

it works both ways.....GM's and owners will cut you in a heartbeat why cant a player do the same

April 18, 2008  07:40 AM ET

Come on Brian.....just play and hope you dont spend most of the season on the sideline injured.

April 18, 2008  07:42 AM ET

Because they are ownership. It is well within their rights to hire or fire a player. If players want their contracts to be firmer in terms of not being able to get canned with no compensation they should have included some guaranteed money in their CBA....oh wait they DID!

because the owners are paying YOU, not the other way around.
That and theres that small matter of a contract.
Alot of contracts have trade clauses just as alot of contracts have conditions.
The owner/GM is entitled to cut your ass if you dont meet those conditions or expectations. Few players are cut because they're exceeding expectations or earning their money.

zactly Big Blue. Players get 60% of the generated revenue from the owners.
Thats in addition to their salaries.
Quit the bitchen and get ta playin

Urlacher for Chad Johnson souds good to me

April 18, 2008  08:03 AM ET

I don't get it. I thought the Bears were set a couple of years ago when they had their whole defense signed through 2011. What an ungrateful ****.

April 18, 2008  08:13 AM ET

who would trade for a lb with a bad neck and a player that might retire in the next year or two.

April 18, 2008  08:14 AM ET

I'll be interested to see if fannation folks give this guy the same treatement/abuse Chad Johnson was given about 24 hours ago right here...

Hank.. heres the key part of that op-ed piece. First, its a personal opinion of the writer. Thats primary. Second.

"blew out his knee for the second time in three years last season while trying to help the Saints win a game.

His reward: The Saints restructured his contract.

The $1 million bonus he was supposed to receive has been converted to incentives. If he fully recovers, he'll get the money that his contract originally said he was supposed to receive. If there are complications, then he won't. "

part and parcel of the reward of playing in the NFL is the inherent risk the players take. Thats a given. Thats why they get paid HUGE money.

Thats twice in 3 years he blew his knee out and was put on the DL. Was he helping the team by being ON the DL ? No. So why should he be paid to play when hes not playing? The Saints were well within their rights and obligations to the other team members to restructure the contract and place levels of expectations in his contract.
