Van Gundy questions Heat's motives
Jeff Van Gundy, working Suns-Spurs and Nuggets-Lakers for ABC this weekend as the playoffs begin, said off the air Wednesday of the Heat, ``They haven't been putting a product on the floor that's representative of NBA basketball, whether it's true injuries or trying to manipulate their chances in the lottery. They should have been in the 40s [in victories], so I'm not going to give them credit for some turnaround next year if they try real hard and win because they didn't do that since Christmas this year.'' Van Gundy said ''there's no way, if Pat Riley is your coach and Dwyane Wade'' is available for 51 games that a team should be this bad ``if you're trying real, real hard. That's impossible.''

I agree with Jeff. Although I would date their intentional tanking all the way back to letting Kapono and Posey walk in exchange for professional tank-artist Ricky Davis.
The heat arent getting the #1 pick though the Knicks are needed by the NBA to be better first.

Jeff speaks the truth. Riley and his team tanked it this season.

I agree with you Hank Hill for the brotherly support thing, but we all can see the same thing Jeff is talking about.
Riley destroyed the Heat this past season and introduced some toxic behavior into that team. I don't know how the Heat fans can cheer for their squad next year if Riley stays around. I know I wouldn't.

They were actually trying to compete when they brought in Ricky David (had to believe but it is true). They gave up a protected first round draft pick just to acquire Davis and Blount. Shaq and Riley did not want Walker on the team so his butt was shipped to MN. Bad trade because Minnesota has an expiring contract and a first round draft pick while Miami owns Blount's fat contract.

I don't think they always tanks, Minnesota had a much worse record. Then of course Foye became healthy and Minnesota acquired Snyder while Miami realized they had no hope for the future so then they went in full tank mode at the end of the season.

Actually I don't think they tanked until the very end. I think they were really that bad. Riley got rid of everybody that could have made that team relevant. Kapono, Posey' Walker, Eddie Jones, and Gary Payton--then tried to replace them with the likes of Smush Parker. I'm a Heat fan, and still can't believe he passed on Kevin Martin for Dorrell Wright. Riley is terrible at assessing talent. They are really as bad as they lolok.

I agree with your response Se7en Nation Army, PR spewed a bad seed and contaminated his team when he verbally criticized his players. If he's known as the "Great Motivator" he should have some descency to keep those matters internal. He didn't do that, so his team suffered and not to mention his POOR decsions of letting Kapono, Posey, and Payton go. Eddie was washed up anyway, so he doesn't count., They need anotha coach.

Pat Riley's a little smarter than you guys are giving him credit for. What happened when Shaq, Wade, Kapono, Posey, Walker lost to the BULLS (of all teams) in the first round? Its not that Riley made this team by the acquisitions, that Team relied to much on Shaq and Wade, that when either would go down, it was too easy to beat them. Plus, Shaq and Walker combined for a huge salary which limited their ability to get that third scorer. What Riley decided to do was in the long term the smartest thing considering what the Celtics and teams of the West did. Its not about making the playoffs although that seems to be what some people think is the milestone. Riley is about winning championships which means you have to put the best team on the floor. Which now a days requires 3 stars not two anymore including some good role players. Which Shaq dwindling with age, he's not that "star" anymore. Marion was a good acquisition, they are three players away from being back among the elite teams. They need a bad ass point guard and a decent center. If the get Rose in the draft, watch for them to try to get a center in free agency or in a trade.

Van Gundy this is why you are a announcerboy now instead of a NBA coach. Your comments almost makes Charles Barkely's comments seem intelligent !!!

Van Gundy Who?, Whos he coaching? The microphone! please try not to quit your day job YOU LOSER!!! hes just jealous that hes a bad coach and could never be as great as Riley!!!
but yeah the heat did shut wade down for the first pick in the draft, why not? when your team is 10 and 40..wade needed the rest anyways....but whatever the miami heat will rebound and hopefully shut up Van Gundy, or hopefully he'll be back on the ground around Zo's ankles beging for Zo not to stomp his face in for his comments!

I guess Pat used the last 30 games to view the bench talent. Blount, Quinn, Cook, Barron, Banks - solid reserve core. Wade, Marion, Haslem, & the pick will be great if they stay healthy. We'll survive whomever the coach is...unless it's Isiah...
