Isiah, Marbury may stick with Knicks

In his first meeting with new Knicks president Donnie Walsh, Stephon Marbury got no indication he's being shown the same exit door as Isiah Thomas, who will be removed officially as head coach in an announcement that could come today. Walsh is looking for a new coach, a GM-type - he already has talked to former Sixers GM Billy King - and a director of college scouting. Thomas conceivably could be put in charge of college scouting, one of his strengths. Walsh said Thomas' good attributes have been "overshadowed," referring to the organized scouting department he assembled.

I think Zeke should be promoted to head European scout (being as the Knicks have no foreign players). Send him out of the country....

April 18, 2008  09:53 AM ET

He cant possibly have any shot of staying employed with the knicks... or gaining employment as a coach anywhere else I wouldn't think... But Its the Knicks.. nothing really surprises you lately

April 18, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Yeah, Isaih was always scouting for talent, whether it was over-paid players or ladies to work for the front office.

April 18, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Marbury should be bought out rather then traded. In my humble opinion it doesn't make sense to trade him and pick up even more long term contracts. The Knicks are better off just getting rid of him a year early in an attempt to finally create some cap room.

Isiah can stick around as the VP of Janitorial Services at the Garden. He's trash anyway so he should fit right in.

April 18, 2008  10:12 AM ET

I'm a Laker fan but I'm from NYC. There is no need for Laker talk here. Lets do that elsewhere.

April 18, 2008  10:25 AM ET

I agree, if the Knicks trade Marbury, they will most likely end up with crappy players with longer contracts. A buyout might be a good thing, or perhaps an expiring contract and draft picks might do the trick.

As for Isiah, can anyone find more humiliating stuff about him? I am really out of ideas.

April 18, 2008  10:56 AM ET

Marbury is an expiring contract, why would NY trade him, they should be rebuilding.

April 18, 2008  11:09 AM ET

You rebuild with draft picks, not letting players walk away for nothing. As long as the contracts expire in 2010 who cares so long as you get 1st round picks.

April 18, 2008  11:23 AM ET

I am not a Knock fan, but I liked the Knicks (prior to Isaiah destroying them); but I am confused about Isiah having an eye for college talent (i.e."college scouting, one of his strengths").

Didn't he pass up Tayshun Prince and what strong college talent did he bring to the Knicks? Please school me as needed.

April 18, 2008  11:23 AM ET

"You rebuild with draft picks "

- obviously- but you really rebuild with STUD, NO- BRAINERS
like Lebron, Duncan....EWING 20 yrs ago
& there just aren't too many of those out there.
(does this draft have one? I think Beasley & Rose will be great- but will they be lebron-like? Doubt it)

Look at the clippers - they've been in the lottery for EVER & go nowhere
Bad luck + bad MANAGEMENT = sorry franchise

Make him head of HR

April 18, 2008  11:58 AM ET

What sense does it make for them to trade marbury or buy him out with no other point guard on the roster? keep him, let him play out his contract and GAIN SALARY CAP SPACE little by little

April 18, 2008  12:18 PM ET

Under the right circumstances, anyone can be traded but Marbury just might be the exception...

As for buying him out, why would he take one? He's nuts, but not totally stupid. No one would give him much more than the minimum at this stage, so taking a buyout can only cost him money

It makes more sense from his position to stay, try to get it working with a new coach and have a great year. That way maybe some new idiots will cut him a contract for 2010 and beyond...

"Look at the clippers - they've been in the lottery for EVER & go nowhere "

Yeah but the Clippers are probably the worst draft selectors in history aside from Atlanta. I've never seen so many wasted lottery picks (although Kaman is finally starting to look like something). With the right management, good drafting, and one or two good trades we can begin the foundations of a great franchise. That is how San Antonio, Detroit, Orlando, Toronto, Sixers, etc. have done it and the Knicks (who can attract better free agents than any of those teams) with the right management can build a dynasty pretty quickly.

April 18, 2008  12:31 PM ET

I think that Zeke should be completely removed from the Knicks; he does not deserve to a be a part of the knicks organization. Even as a scout, he will be a cancer to the team. Trust me.

Does he have a driver's license? Maybe he can be the bus driver for the team
