Inside Penn State QB battle

Remember Pat Devlin? The quarterback at Downingtown East High School who set the Pennsylvania career passing record, the 2005 Parade all-American, and the blue chip recruit who committed to Miami and then changed his mind, only to sign with Penn State? He's back, sort of. Almost three years after leaving Southeastern Pennsylvania as the area's most decorated prep quarterback, Devlin is engaged in one of the nation's most scrutinized position battles. In one corner is Daryll Clark, the senior-to-be with the run-first, pass-second reputation and slightly more experience. In the other is Devlin, the redshirt sophomore who charmed local fans with his accurate arm and swashbuckling style.

"Swashbuckling style" eh? Is he swing from rope to rope on his ship or getting into sword fights while exchanging pithy quips?

April 18, 2008  10:08 AM ET

I can't wait to see both of them play in the Blue & White game tomorrow.

April 18, 2008  10:24 AM ET

Play Clark now. He's going to be a Senior, which means Devlin will still have two years left to shine.

I always love watching QB challenges. But isn't like watching dueling captains fighting over a sinking ship that is burning? :P

JoePa favors the senior athletes even when a younger athlete is better. Now that his job is literally on the line, I think he'll shake things up this year and we'll see both QB's.

April 18, 2008  12:11 PM ET

Why not play them both. Nothing wrong with Clark being used more as an RB/ Look at the gators 2 years ago. Two solid QB's but one a much more gifted runner, so keep defenses guessing

Ha what does swashbuckling style even mean? Is he raiding the local sorortiy house as night and pillaging Poonanni? HAHA

April 18, 2008  02:22 PM ET

Why not get a head coach with experience, oh wait, that's right he came over on the Mayflower.

April 18, 2008  05:13 PM ET
