Bad mechanics hampering Mickelson

Is Phil Mickelson haunted by Winged Foot? There was every reason to believe so when Mickelson did not post another top 10 after blowing the U.S. Open last year and had a miserable Ryder Cup. But it appears he was simply haunted by bad mechanics more than any mental issues.

Phil is starting to believe everything the press writes about him.

Wing Foot is over. All of you seem to forget at the 1855 U.S. Open Playoff
between Ben Hogan and Jack Fleck, When Ben Hogan hooked his drive in the high ruff. Ben Hogan to two strokes to get of the ruff and it cost him the th 1955 U.S. Open it was a mistaked Ben Hogan made and he went on to win several more times.

I myself a former Teaching Professional I believe I can correct Phil's mechanics.

There is one thing I want to see is all the soprts writers tee it up at the U.S. Open and see it they shoot a score under the National Debt.

P.S. Ben Hogan very rarely talked to the press.

the problem is his ever growing stomach getting in the way of his arms when he swings

It's interesting that the only person NOT dwelling on last year's US Open is Phil himself. When asked about it on numerous occasions, in his polite Phil-like way, he states that it is in the past, he learned from it and has moved on. Why doesn't everyone else?

yes you can call me a phil hater, but i just cannot stand the guy. If he double bogeys three holes in a row he still has a big smile running across his face. About his mechanics, I'm sure that they won't be a problem as he now has Harmon as his coach. I don't think mechanics are phil's problem b/c in his last tourney on tour he hit 17/18 greens in reg. thats NOT a result of poor mechanics

Personally i think Phils problems at the US Open last year were ego not mechanics. He kept hitting driver even though he couldnt hit the next fairway across let alone the one he was aiming for. He seems to have that i will do it my way mentality. If he could learn better course management(see this years Players) he will win US Opens.Oakmont may just be it. Love him or hate him, he is fun to watch except for that bloody smile all the time. Just once i would like to see him slam his club and look annoyed!

In the 72nd hole at Pebble Beach with a twelve shot lead going on to a par-5 Tiger Woods hit a four iron off the tee. He followed it up with another four iron then stuck a wedge close enough to give birdie a shot.

Phil's achilles heel is mental. He is a refined John Daly. Though Phil desperately needs to shorten his swing (and hit more fairways) what he truly needs to change is his course management.

Time and time again we hear Bones advise a different club or a different shot to play. More often than not Phil will do what he wants anyway. His risk taking has even become a theme at some Callaway commercials.

I'm not saying if but WHEN Phil learns to play more conservatively he will win more. Winged Foot taught him a lesson. Perhaps he needs a few more.
